This dad was the first to 'breastfeed' his newborn because his wife couldn't

While his wife recovered from an emergency C-section, this jokester dad stepped up to the plate and helped nurse his newborn daughter.

When it comes to breastfeeding a newborn at the hospital, fathers aren't usually involved in the process too much. However, when this new dad's wife wasn't able to feed their baby after delivery, the nurses decided to let him have a go.

In a recent post submitted to Love What Matters, Maxamillian Neubauer explains how he ended up breastfeeding his daughter, Rosalía. Now, we're not talking about "chestfeeding," which is totally a thing, too. Maxamillian's wife, April, was recovering from an emergency C-section related to preeclampsia during her pregnancy, which meant that her blood pressure was super high. Because of this, she ended up having not one, but two seizures during delivery, leaving her unconscious and recovering once the baby was born.

The new parents knew they wanted to have skin-to-skin contact as soon as possible, and because April was out of commission for the time being, Maxamillian was the first to get a turn with the baby. While they were snuggling, the nurse wanted Maxamillian to start feeding the baby formula right away using a temporary nursing system. According to the nurse, the feeding could happen via finger—essentially you take a feeding tube and tape it to your finger—and the baby suckles from there, or with a nipple shield to imitate actual breastfeeding.

Maxamillain said that since he was a big joker and was down to "try just about anything once," he went with the fake nipple and "breastfed" his baby. "I never thought in a million years that I would ever be breastfeeding a baby," the new dad told People. "The minute they brought her out, it was hard to hold back the tears. It was instant love, it’s my baby. I was just really happy I could be there for her. It was awkwardly magical." Take a look at some of the precious pictures he shared on Facebook.

Isn't that the cutest? Luckily, mom wasn't too fussed about not being the first to "nurse" her baby. "We still did what we wanted to do," she told People. "We did the skin-to-skin and we did the breastfeeding like we had planned, it just wasn’t with me." Judging from the photos above, she got her turn eventually.
