About Us

Today's Parent is a trusted North American destination for parenting resources, reaching six million readers monthly through inspirational storytelling, curated product recommendations and expert advice. As a safe place to land—and sometimes, a fun place to climb—Today's Parent delivers well-researched, straightforward advice from expert sources, stories from real families and trusted product recommendations.

Founded in 1984 by Beverly Topping as a 48-page, saddle-stitched booklet distributed through doctors' offices, Today's Parent was created as a trusted resource for parents. The magazine quickly gained popularity thanks to its approachable, research-based content. Over the years, it expanded to cover a wide range of parenting topics, including pregnancy, child development, family life, education and health. In March 2019, Today's Parent was acquired by SJC as part of its purchase of Rogers Media's publishing division, marking a new era for the brand.

The modern Today's Parent speaks to parents in a fun, friendly voice with a positive attitude—never preaching, never pretending to have all the answers. We don't dictate what's right or wrong. With expert advice, first-person stories and vetted product recommendations, we help you discover the philosophies and ideas that feel like home to you.

Today's Parent covers all stages of the parenting journey, including trying to conceive, pregnancy, and developmental milestones and advice right through the teen years. Our content spans essential parenting topics including sleep, health and nutrition, safety, travel and family-friendly destinations, child development and education, mental health and family dynamics and family finance.

The brand reaches an engaged community through multiple platforms including its website and social media channels on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest and YouTube.

Through specialized newsletters—covering every stage from pregnancy through the big-kid years—Today's Parent delivers relevant content straight to parents' inboxes, offering expert advice and support that evolves as their families grow.

The brand's authority is further strengthened through initiatives like Today's Parent Approved, a rigorous product evaluation program that helps parents make informed purchasing decisions through detailed reviews and a trusted seal of approval.

Today's Parent is published by SJC, Canada's largest privately owned media and communications company, alongside other iconic Canadian brands including Maclean's, Chatelaine, Châtelaine, FASHION, Toronto Life, Canadian Business, and HELLO! Canada.

Commercial Content Guidelines

Editorial Independence

Editorial independence is fundamental to our mission. While we collaborate with advertisers, partners and clients, editorial decision-making is not influenced by commercial interests. Our editorial teams have full autonomy to produce content that aligns with their brand mission and values.

If content is created in partnership with an advertiser, it is clearly labelled with “Sponsored Content” or “Created for <client name>.

Our product and service reviews are based on our editorial teams’ research and testing. When readers visit affiliate links within our stories, SJC may receive commission from purchases, but we do not receive any compensation for the content of our recommendations. Any affiliate content is clearly labelled.

We are dedicated to ensuring our content, sources and editorial teams reflect the rich diversity of our communities. We believe comprehensive journalism must include voices across social, demographic and ideological differences. Our commitment includes:

Source Diversity

  • Maintaining diverse expert and source lists
  • Seeking perspectives beyond traditional experts
  • Regularly auditing our coverage for representation
  • Building relationships with underrepresented communities

Content Standards

  • Following clear guidelines for inclusive language
  • Avoiding stereotypical portrayals

  • Recognizing gaps in coverage and working to address them

Our editorial teams review content to ensure it meets these standards for inclusive, balanced and fair representation of the communities we serve.
