The recall was triggered after Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program determined that these gates do not meet the Canadian safety requirements for expansion gates. Specifically, an opening located at the top of the gate is wider than permitted under the Expansion Gates and Expandable Enclosures Regulations, thus creating an entrapment and strangulation hazard to young children. Neither Health Canada nor Madison Mill Inc. has received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these gates in Canada.

Approximately 68,410 units of the recalled gates were sold in Canada between January 2013 and October 2016.
