Archie and Lilibet, everyone's favorite California-based royals just got an official name change this morning. The update was a contentious topic for lovers of everything (and everyone) royal. And if you already loved their names, check out these baby names inspired by princesses.

The official titles of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's children Archie and Lilibet have now been updated in the royal line of succession on the Royal Family's website as "Prince Archie of Sussex" and "Princess Lilibet of Sussex."

They are now sixth and seventh in line to the throne respectively.

The children had previously been referred to as "Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor" and "Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor."

Archie and Lilibet automatically became Prince and Princess when their grandfather became King Charles III, however it was uncertain whether Harry and Meghan would choose to use them.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the couple confirmed the use of the titles while announcing Lilibet's recent christening.

"I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3, by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor," she said.

The couple plans to only use the new titles on formal occasions, not day-to-day while living in California where they have been residing since 2020. Harry and Meghan have kept their children out of the public eye for the most part, but did allow the world a glimpse in their most recent Netflix special, Harry & Meghan.

The documentary showcased the difficulties the couple faced while living in the UK as active members of the Royal Family and their subsequent exit to Canada and then the United States.

Princess Lilibet, born in California in 2021 and was given the name Lilibet Diana, pays tribute to two members of Prince Harry's family with her moniker. First, and perhaps most obviously, the Queen, whose childhood nickname was Lilibet. The toddler's middle name is, which is less often  and his late mom, Princess Diana.

Harry actually showed interest in the name Lily back in 2019 during an outing with Meghan when she was pregnant with Archie. A little girl told him her name was Lily and he asked how it was spelled. Who knew?
