This book feels more like fun than learning. It’s filled with word-building games that help improve spelling skills, broaden vocabulary and help kids become more fluent readers. This series is also available for grades 1 to 3.

If you want a workbook that includes spelling but also has a bit of everything else, opt for the Made Easy series. Exercises in this book include reading passages and spotting spelling mistakes, learning about irregularly spelled words, homophones, dividing words into syllables and more.

Flash Kids (AGES 5-6), $9, indigo.ca

This fun and colourful book will help your little bee strengthen his spelling skills. He’ll work through activities that link spelling to meaning, read short passages to proofread for misspelled words, and learn about the dictionary.
