At a recent event, Duchess Kate spilled her four-year-old daughter's love of hot curries—and her own struggle to cook the dish for the entire family.

From her cheeky aside to the media at Prince Louis' christening to her propensity for posing with her tongue out, Princess Charlotte has never shied away from showing her sassy side—so we can't say we're surprised that Prince William and Kate's daughter isn't scared of a little spice. When the couple stepped out for a reception on Wednesday, ahead of their upcoming Pakistan tour, the Duchess spilled new insights into Lottie's taste buds—and the highly relatable challenge of making one dish to suit an entire family.
While visiting the Aga Khan Centre in London, the Cambridges chatted Pakistani food with former MasterChef winner Saliha Mahmood Ahmed. Kate shared that she loves to make curry, but she often finds herself whipping up multiple versions to suit her squad's needs.
“It’s so hard cooking curry with the family, though. The children have a portion with no spice," she said, before turning to her husband and noting, "yours is medium.” Of her own personal preference, she added, “I quite like it hot.” Making three versions of curry to suit the entire fam may be a hard pass for many of us, but we admire Kate's determination.
And her four-year-old daughter's spicy palate! “Charlotte is pretty good with heat,” said the 37-year-old of her middle child, who might just have a higher tolerance than her dad. There's never been any doubt in our mind that the little girl is an absolute badass, so bring on the chillies!

Photo: Getty ImagesEarlier this year, during Children's Mental Health Week, fans found out another one of Charlotte's fave foods: olives! Matthew Kleiner-Mann, chief executive of the Ivy Learning trust, told reporters about his chat with Kate, who also said her kids sometimes spoil her with home-cooked meals of their own. "She was telling us how much her children love cooking and how they cook for her," he said—and it sounds like they make their mac 'n' cheese... from scratch. "They made cheesy pasta the other day. One stirs the flour, one puts the milk and butter in." Ummm, are they for hire? We'd happily have George and Charlotte take the pressure off our weeknight scramble to get food on the table.
And while Charlotte's palate seems rather refined for a youngster, the pair's love of cheese is totally relatable. Last year, while visiting St Luke's Community Centre, the Duchess said that another thing they love to make is pizza. "I've done that with George and Charlotte—making pizza dough. They love it because they can get their hands messy."
The Cambridge kids have clearly inherited their kitchen savvy from their mama. But rest assured, Kate isn't making all of her own curries—and she's not immune to a Netflix and chill. In an April 2017 interview with the BBC, the then-mom of two admitted that she and William love a cozy night in with takeout curry and their fave shows (which were Game of Thrones and Homeland at the time). And when Dukes and Duchesses take a night off, you'd better believe they're in their "comfy clothes," said William.
Sounds like Charlotte will have a spot on the couch for curry in no time!
