It’s a very big day for Princess Charlotte! She attended her very first royal engagement—and it was full of kids.
William, Kate, George and Charlotte all attended a children’s party for military families today (September 29) on the grounds of Government House in Victoria.
There were 24 kids at the event who got to enjoy a puppet show, balloon animals, bubbles and a petting zoo. Basically everything kids love! George and Charlotte certainly had a blast.
Charlotte particularly loved the balloons! She ran for them as soon as Kate put her down. She kept yelling “Pop!” William asked her “Are we going to go pop?” And then she tried to lift the whole archway and take it away. You go girl! Pop is actually the first word we’ve heard Charlotte say in public.

Can you hear Charlotte saying “Dada” in this video! The cutest!
At first George was a bit shy and asking for “Mummy.” But he quickly perked up when he saw an orange fish-shaped bubble gun, which he proceeded to squirt Charlotte with. Oh, sibling love!
I think it’s fair to say that George LOVES bubbles.
At first William was blowing the bubbles, but George is a typical toddler and wanted to do it himself.
George went for a ride on a pony, but Charlotte decided to sit on a sweet dog named Moose.
And then she was back to the balloons. This girl loves balloons. And her Dada.
When George saw that Charlotte was getting balloon flowers and animals, he was quick to race over to get his own. That grin! He asked for the balloon maker to make him a volcano. That’s quite a request.
There was lots of food for the kids to enjoy, which is good because Kate said Charlotte is always hungry. There was also juice (in fancy cups) and a spot of tea, too.
In the fashion department, it’s become clear that the kids definitely have a signature style. George wore shorts, a sweater from Wild and Gorgeous, a striped shirt from Neck & Neck and his trusty Amaia knee socks. He’s also sporting a brand new pair of loafers. I guess when you’re the future king you wear loafers when you’re three. Charlotte wore another blue smocked dress (from Pepa and Co) with a cardigan from Spanish brand MI Lucero, socks and the same shoes she wore when she arrived in Victoria. Of course she also had a baby blue bow in her hair—Kate gets all her bows from Amaia.
Kate was wearing a cream See by Chloe dress with her Monsoon wedges. I thought cream was a risky colour for a children’s party.
The families that attended the party have a loved one currently serving in the Canadian Armed Forces. It was lovely that George and Charlotte got to attend this event because like many royals before them, the kids will likely go on to serve in the army. George is also the future Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian army.
I must say it’s very exciting to see the kids again—and watch them interact. We haven’t seen them since they first arrived in Victoria on September 24. Since then the kids have been staying at Government House (and exploring local sites like Beacon Hill Park) while Mum and Dad have travelled around British Columbia and Yukon.
When Kensington Palace announced the kids were coming on the tour, they didn’t confirm if the kids would be attending any engagements. With toddlers it’s hard to know if they will cooperate until the day of. So we never got official confirmation that the kids would attend the children’s party. But both George and Charlotte were in great spirits today and seemed to have a blast. It’s pretty awesome that Charlotte, 16 months, undertook her very first royal engagement in Canada.
This is George’s fourth public engagement. He has his first one back in 2014 when he went on a playdate in New Zealand. He then met his namesake bilby in Australia that same year. He finally had his first UK engagement in July when he visited the Royal International Tattoo.
So when will we see George and Charlotte next? The family is spending the rest of the day privately and then Kate and William have more public engagements on Friday and Saturday. The family will depart on Saturday October 1st. The official farewell will happen just before 4 o’clock local time at Victoria Harbour Airport. The family will climb aboard the plane (Kate will likely carry Charlotte, again) and will head home for London. I wonder if this time they will colour coordinate again? Maybe this time all in red!
I for one will miss having the Cambridges in Canada. And we likely won’t get photos of the family of four until December! Until then look back at George and Charlotte’s cutest moments of the tour so far:
On October 1st, the Camridges arrived at Victoria Harbour for their departure from Canada. George was the first one out of the van. William held on to George's hand while he helped Charlotte out of her carseat. George looks a bit impatient.
