Jennifer Hudson on sending her son to preschool

Oscar and Grammy award-winner Jennifer Hudson, 31, is sad her four-year-old son, David Daniel, is starting preschool this year.

No, she's not sad because of the thick sense of nostalgia in the air or the feeling our kids are growing up so fast or because where the heck did the summer go?? like many of us are. She's sad for a more Hollywood reason.

"Oh my God, he’s getting ready to start school," she told People at last weekend's Video Music Awards (VMAs). "I’m going to miss him because he won’t be able to travel with me."

"So that’s the downside," she added. "He’s bound to home now."

That is hard for a big Hollywood star, to be sure. One great thing about her son getting older, however, is that little David can now exercise in the morning with his dad, David Otunga, she says — and more so, because Jennifer's enjoying seeing him become his own person. “I like watching him come into his own,” she told the mag. “I don’t want to tell him what he can and can’t be.”

How was your first day of school? Were you sad to see the kids go? Excited? Nostalgic? I was excited for my kids to enter grades 1 and 3, but also, well, verklempt. I'll miss our summer weekends at the cottage. And my gosh..., grade 3 already!?
