The Lalo high chair is absolutely worth the hype.
If there’s one thing every parent needs to put on their baby registry, it’s a high chair. But with so many options on the market, how do you choose the right one? After my daughter, Carlin spent months hating the first high chair we purchased—she cried almost every time we placed her in it—we decided to try the Lalo high chair, and we’re so glad we did.
Known for its simple, Scandinavian-inspired aesthetic, Lalo is one of the most popular luxury brands for children right now. The Lalo 3-in-1 high chair is among the brand's top sellers with over 2,000 near-perfect reviews.
While I look forward to Carlin sitting in a regular dining chair someday, I’m absolutely thrilled with the Lalo and would 100% recommend it to other families. Here’s my Lalo high chair review for parents who want the low-down on this trendy item.
If you’re looking for a big reason to splurge on the Lalo high chair, consider your kid's comfort. In my unscientific opinion, Carlin prefers this high chair over her first one because its curved shape cradles her body and makes her feel secure. Her first high chair had a straighter, boxier seat, and I think the problem was that she was a bit small for it.
I’m fairly petite, and Carlin is a little peanut. After a minute or two of sitting, she’d start shifting around. And despite our best efforts, she’d remove the tray and almost fell out multiple times. So, we seriously needed something she’d comfortably stay in.
That said, I don’t think the Lalo high chair is just for smaller children. My friend’s son is a typical chunky baby and probably has 15 pounds on Carlin. They have the same high chair, and he looks just as comfortable munching away at his dinner.
Another reason I chose Lalo is that the chair doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb in our dining room. It’s sleekly designed and available in a nice range of colours including coconut, sage, licorice, grapefruit and blueberry, all with natural wood legs. There’s also a limited edition mono coconut version with matching wood legs for a seriously minimalist look.
We chose blueberry because our dining room has blue and white chairs, a blue and white rug and a navy liquor cabinet. It blended in perfectly! As someone who writes about interior design (that’s my main job), I confess that the look of our high chair was just as important as its function.
It’s also worth noting that the angled legs of the Lalo high chair are very on-trend right now. While it still looks like children’s furniture, it certainly outshines the other options that my husband and I considered. However, the angled legs do pose one minor problem—they’re slightly hazardous. I tripped over them a few times and stubbed my toe. But once I moved the chair to the head of the table, the problem was instantly solved. Keep this in mind if your dining space is a bit tight.
As someone terrible at assembling most products (like many moms, my patience is limited), I found assembling the Lalo high chair incredibly easy. I watched a YouTube video a week before it arrived and managed to put it together without a hitch or extra instructions. My husband was impressed!
Many Lalo high chair reviews noted how easy the chair is to clean. Made from plastic, it only takes a quick wipe-down. While the manufacturer recommends using a sponge and mild dish soap, I use a paper towel and water or a little bit of Healthy Baby cleaning spray.
The tray is removable and top-rack dishwasher safe for easy cleaning, making it a fantastic choice for dealing with stuck-on food. The Lalo high chair cover is also machine-washable, though I’ve only used it a few times. None of my friends who have this high chair use their cushions regularly, either.
Amanda LaurenSeveral accessories are available, including a Lalo high chair infant insert and a booster conversion kit, which I plan on purchasing when my daughter becomes large enough for it.
The brand also offers extra cushions. If your child is a messy eater, I highly recommend getting one, because the cushion isn’t dryer-safe. So, if they prefer a cushioned high chair, it may be worth having a spare along with extra Lalo high chair straps in case yours becomes dirty or damaged.
The Splat Mat is a great accessory if your child is a messy eater or frequent food thrower. Measuring 47 by 47 inches, it’s available in various styles to complement both the chair and your decor. Besides meal times, it’s also useful for messy craft projects.
Lastly, Lalo offers a set of shorter legs to convert it from a high chair to a play chair. This reasonably priced add-on lets you get extra use out of the chair, saving you from buying a separate play chair. I’m pretty sure I’ll make this purchase in the future, as well.
While some might label me a “crunchy mom,” I try to avoid toxic products, especially children’s furniture. I was thrilled to learn the Lalo high chair is eco-friendly. The plastic components are non-toxic and the vegan leather cushion is free of toxins, PVC, phthalates and lead, as well as being CPSIA-compliant. The legs are made from FSC-certified beech wood and have a non-toxic finish. So, if your little one is crawling around on the floor and puts their mouth on the legs, there’s no need to worry.
The Lalo high chair is worth adding to your baby registry. Great for babies and toddlers of all shapes and sizes, it’s a must-have that’s easy to clean (even after messy dinners), and looks great in adult spaces. While it’s not cheap, the accessories and the option to use it beyond the high chair years make it worth the investment.
