If you’re looking for a dish soap that cleans as well as it smells, Ivory Concentrated Dishwashing Liquid is a good one to try. Keeping in line with the brand, this product will fill your sink with Ivory’s classic aroma—a scent our parent testers and Today’s Parent Approved editors enjoyed. Everyone was also impressed with this biodegradable detergent's powerful cleaning performance: It cut through all food messes, from greasy peanut butter residue to crusted-on macaroni and cheese. But where some dish soaps will leave hands dry and irritated, Ivory is soft on hands thanks to a gentle formula that won’t strip the oils from your skin.
Editors tested Ivory Concentrated Dishwashing Liquid by putting it to work on dishes that had been dirtied with peanut butter, oil, tomato sauce and boxed mac and cheese. Only a simple wash or light scrubbing was needed to wash away the foods after a quick soak in warm, soapy water—and our editors' hands felt no irritation afterward. They were also impressed with the amount of suds one teaspoon of dish soap produced, though the volume of bubbles reduced after 10 minutes, the water stayed impressively sudsy all throughout the wash.
Our parent testers had similar experiences. Most found Ivory Concentrated Dishwashing Liquid lathered extremely well. There was no need to scrub vigorously to get dishes clean: The majority reported that the dish soap lifted baked-on grease, sticky messes and even juice pulp from glasses with ease. Half of our parent testers found rinsing the soap off dishes quick and easy, but because of this soap's strong sudsing game, the other half found rinsing only somewhat easy. Most parents agreed that their dishes were left streak-free and sparkling, not to mention squeaky clean.
Nothing sucks quite like squirting out some dish soap only to have a whole glug pour out instead. In our lab, our editors liked how easy it was to control the pour from the bottle of Ivory Concentrated Dishwashing Liquid. They found the hinge cap easy to open with a flick of the thumb and simple to secure shut with the press of a finger. The bottle is wide and slim, with contours along the front and back, giving you good grip and control when hands are wet. Most of our parent testers found it easy to pour with control, be it a small amount or a larger squirt, and none had issues with keeping the outside of the bottle clean.
Scent can be an attraction or a turn-off, depending on how sensitive you are to smells. One tester noted the Ivory dish soap fragrance may be a bit too much of a good thing for some people, but others loved that classic Ivory scent.
Ivory Concentrated Dishwashing Liquid offers good cleaning performance without irritating hands. Parent testers gave the dish soap good or very good ratings across the board for ease of use, quality and value, with most reporting that it works better than other dish soaps they’ve used. They were also happy with how long the bottle lasted, and one mom, who noted that the price is in line with the dish soap she normally buys, said she'd happily make a switch. The ultimate approval, of course, is whether parents would buy a product or recommend it to other parents, and all said they would. From its elegant white bottle to its aromatic, ultra-cleansing suds, Ivory Concentrated Dishwashing Liquid is a premium dish soap that gets the job done.
