Babyquip lived up to its promise of being a hassle-free way to travel light with kids.
You never realize how many things your child needs on the daily until you’re packing for a trip. Forget about clothes, diapers, the small essentials—it’s the baby gear that can really cause transportation issues. Where is your child going to sleep? You might need to bring a travel crib, but if you’re traveling by car, there might not be space for it. What if you're taking a flight and your regular stroller can't be checked with your luggage? This is where the BabyQuip rental company comes to the rescue.
BabyQuip is a baby gear rental service that helps parents travel lighter. From large items like cribs, car seats and strollers to helpful accessories like bouncers, sound machines and toys, all the gear you need is delivered right to you. I fly with my toddler every other month to visit the in-laws, so I rented some essentials for my last trip. Here's my honest BabyQuip review and everything you'd want to know about the service.

Instead of renting gear from a brand, BabyQuip allows you to rent baby products from fellow parents and caregivers. The peer-to-peer service means that, yes, the gear has likely been used before. In order to be someone who rents out their products—called a Quality Provider (QP)—they’re required to pass background checks and complete extensive safety standards training. There are over 2,000 providers across the country, so you’re almost sure to find one near your destination with the gear you need.
BabyQuip is useful for people who don’t want to pack bulky baby gear, frequent travellers, and those who are visiting friends or family who don’t have all the baby essentials. The items can be dropped off at a hotel, rental home or even at the airport. You may need some gear for a few days or weeks at a time and BabyQuip can accommodate all kinds of trip lengths.
When you go to BabyQuip’s website, you're asked to enter your destination. You’ll be prompted to choose delivery or self pick-up and return, provide the full address, and insert the rental dates, delivery time window and pick-up time window. Keep in mind that there may be a delivery and pick-up fee. Once you do that, you’ll be shown the products available in the area, broken down by category, including Crib & Sleep, Strollers & Wagons, Car Seats, High Chairs & Mealtime, etc.
The cost depends on the product, location and provider. A changing pad might just be $1 per day and a bassinet might be $16 per day. I was impressed by the variety of products available near my destination. Was there every single brand and product known to man? No, but I felt there was enough variety to choose a decent stroller, high chair and noise machine for my trip. After choosing the products you want, you select from the available providers. The prices and provider ratings are shown upfront, so you can compare and find the right fit.
Once you find the QP you’d like to rent from, you’re shown the order summary, including the rented products, dates, fees and the total cost. From there, you go through the checkout process where you have the option of chatting with and asking questions from the QP before placing an order. At this point, you can also change the delivery/pick-up choice, address, rental dates and times.
If you choose the pick-up option, you're provided with the location to get it yourself. (At checkout, you’re told how far away it is and an approximate location, but you only receive the exact address after you've reserved the gear.) For those who opt for delivery, you'll receive the items within the two-hour time range of your choosing. You won’t need to be present or sign for it. Depending on the provider and item, the QP may set up the gear, too.
The last day of vacation can be even more chaotic than getting to your destination. BabyQuip makes it easy when it’s time to return the gear, too. For those who chose self-return, you’ll bring it back to the location where you picked it up. If you went with delivery, you’ll leave the gear in front of your location during the two-hour time range that you chose. And if your travel plans change, BabyQuip can help with updating the arrangements.
The idea of having your child use not-new gear may not be your ideal scenario. You sleep in hotel beds, sit in Ubers and try on clothing in stores that others have put on. My point is, we all get through life just fine interacting with other people’s things—and they probably don’t have the sort of quality, cleanliness and safety standards as BabyQuip does. QPs must inspect and deep clean the products after every pick-up, then inspect and clean them again before the next delivery. BabyQuip recommends that QPs use parent-approved, organic and/or non-toxic cleaners. You can ask your QP which cleaning products they used, if this is important to you.
The items I rented for my Florida trip were placed on the sides of my in-laws’ front door. I unfolded the Baby Jogger stroller (it took me a second to unlatch since I hadn’t used this model before) and found it to be in great shape. There were a few tiny bits of fuzz, but nothing I took issue with. The Stokke high chair had some dings on it as I’d expect from a pre-loved piece of baby gear, which I didn't mind. And the Dohm noise machine was like new—it even came in the box with its original instructions.
The day before my BabyQuip rental gear was set to be delivered, the QP texted me to confirm the delivery time window. She also asked if I needed anything else added to my order. I didn’t, but I appreciated having the option to add something last minute. The BabyQuip delivery process couldn’t have been smoother. The QP simply delivered the three items to the front door. Everything was ready to use—I just had to unfold the stroller and plug in the noise machine.
Could you get through a vacation without, say, a high chair? Sure, but parents know that it would have added more stress to mealtimes. There’s something to be said about taking that extra step to make the experience more pleasant for everyone. With fair prices for high-quality pieces, the service can truly upgrade a trip, as it did mine.
One of the most convenient aspects of the BabyQuip service is that you don't have to be present for pick up and drop off if you're getting items delivered. It cost me $35 for the delivery and return, and it was worth every penny. I could enjoy my vacation and not have a lingering task to do before heading to the airport. My QP texted me that morning to make sure the time window was still good to go, and that was that.
BabyQuip is a really smart idea that delivered on its promise of providing high-quality, convenient baby gear rentals, making traveling with little ones significantly easier. Imagine just showing up at your rental home and you have a crib, stroller and car seat waiting for you—and when you’re heading out, there’s no check-out process. If you have an upcoming trip and are dreading bringing bulky baby gear along, consider this the practical solution to your problem. It’s a helpful, reasonably priced service that caters to people who need a getaway most: parents and caregivers.
