An eczema flare-up is often itchy and painful, but a good cream can go a long way toward relieving symptoms and helping to speed up healing. Cetaphil Restoraderm Replenishing Moisturizer sinks into eczema-prone skin to calm and protect the skin’s barrier. When skin is dry and cracked, the barrier can be breached by environmental irritants, but this lightweight Cetaphil cream helps strengthen the skin barrier and restore moisture with ingredients like filaggrin, a protein that helps regulate moisture, and ceramide, a major component of the skin barrier. Accepted by the Eczema Society of Canada, Cetaphil Restoraderm Replenishing Moisturizer is non-greasy and free of added fragrances, and in our tests, we found it to be a quick, effective solution to reduce inflammation and protect the skin.
To put eczema creams to the test, we sent samples to families with kids or parents who suffer from this skin condition. Our parent testers noticed their child’s skin was less itchy after applying Cetaphil Restoraderm Replenishing Moisturizer, especially after a few days of regular use. Most found it also relieved dryness, redness and inflammation within a few days of use. Overall, parents said the Cetaphil moisturizer provided an effective protective barrier on their kid's skin, and most felt it performed better, to varying degrees, than other eczema creams they've used in the past.
In our lab, we assessed application and skin feel by applying a dime-sized dollop of each cream to our skin. Cetaphil Restoraderm Replenishing Moisturizer has a lotion-like consistency and it produces an immediate cooling sensation upon application. We found that this cream smoothes on easily, and our parent testers agreed, with all responding that this cream didn't pull at their child’s skin while they were spreading it on. In the lab, our editors noticed this cream left a slightly greasy film on the skin, but it wasn't substantial enough to rub off onto clothing, nor was it difficult to wash off hands after applying.
Equipped with a pump dispenser, parent testers said this eczema moisturizer is easy to dispense with precision, and our editors agreed. The pump also has an easy twist-lock so you can avoid accidental messes (especially useful if you have a pump-happy toddler in the house). The container is a bit on the large size, so it's better suited for at-home use rather than something you could pop in a diaper bag or your purse to use on the go. However, testers said they were satisfied with the container’s sturdiness, and overall they rated Cetaphil’s ease of use as good to very good.
Value is important, and when we looked at the price per 100 millilitres, Cetaphil Restoraderm Replenishing Moisturizer is one of the more budget-friendly options at $6.44/100 mL. Plus, our testers felt that a little bit of this cream goes a long way, and most were happy with how long the bottle lasted, so you're getting quite a bit for your buck. They also felt its soothing properties and ability to calm eczema flare-ups made it worth the price.
Formulated with ingredients that help protect and moisturize skin, Cetaphil Restoraderm Replenishing Moisturizer helps soothe and repair eczema-prone skin. Our parent testers unanimously rated the quality and ease of use of this eczema cream good or very good, and most testers gave it the same ratings for value. More importantly, all of our parent testers said they'd recommend it to other parents and felt it deserved the Today's Parent Approved seal. Combined with their feedback on its effectiveness, and our editors' appreciation of how nicely this light cream applies and the cooling sensation that instantly soothes, this is a great cream to try if anyone in your family suffers from eczema.
