Does this premium baby bottle washer live up to its promise of saving time and effort? We tested the all-in-one cleaner, sterilizer and dryer.
Having a newborn is a wonderful time for any parent. It’s full of snuggles and getting to know your little one. It’s also a time of sleepless nights and repetitive tasks like changing diapers and, of course, washing bottles.
Washing, scrubbing and sterilizing can eat up time you would probably rather spend doing something else. But is there a way to keep your bottles clean without spending so much time on this task? It turns out there is.
When my daughter Carlin turned nine months old, my husband and I decided we had had enough of the washing, drying and sterilizing cycle. So, we decided to try the Baby Brezza Bottle Washer Pro. This handy gadget is essentially a countertop dishwasher designed specifically for bottles and breast pump parts. It washes, dries and sterilizes with virtually no effort.
While this bottle washer has a high price tag and takes up a decent amount of counter space, it's completely worth it. Here’s my Baby Brezza Bottle Washer Pro review.
The Baby Brezza Bottle Washer Pro is an all-in-one washer, sterilizer and dryer designed to streamline bottle-cleaning routines. There’s no need to buy a sterilizer, microwave bags or anything else. It effectively eliminates 99.9 percent of bacteria and residue from bottles, pump parts, and those floor-prone pacifiers.
Using this baby bottle washer is virtually seamless. You empty the bottles and load the machine. Then you add a cleaning tablet, refill the water, turn it on and let it do all the hard work for you.
You could probably do the entire thing in under a minute if you really tried. Whether you need to wash, sterilize, dry or do all three, it’s truly a set-it-and-forget-it appliance.
This device can clean up to four bottles at a time, so you always have a clean bottle on hand. Although my daughter is no longer using a bottle, we use it daily to clean her sippy cups, making it well worth the investment.
Baby Brezza recently introduced a dedicated rack for breast pump parts, making it even more of a time-saver. Before buying the Bottle Washer Pro, I never felt like my pump supplies got as clean as they could be in the sink. Being able to clean and sterilize them daily with little effort and no worry took a huge weight off my shoulders.
The special pump rack wasn't available when I was pumping for my now almost two-year-old daughter, so I used the bottle rack. It still worked but required a bit more effort to make everything fit. I'd highly recommend including the Brezza for new parents or registries, especially with the optional pump rack.
Unboxing this product is incredibly easy. It’s mostly pre-assembled—you just need to set up the racks, but it’s pretty self-explanatory. You could probably even do it without reading the directions (I didn’t), and it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. If you’ve been assembling furniture for your infant, this setup shouldn’t be arduous.
My first impression of this product was that it was a little large. If you have a big kitchen or keep lots of small appliances on the counter, the size probably won’t bother you. Still, it wasn’t much larger than the appliance we previously used in its place, which only sterilized bottles. So, if you're debating between the Bottle Washer Pro and a countertop sterilizer, this is a far better choice in the long run.
The quality is also impressive. The Brezza feels sturdy, and the parts feel durable—not at all flimsy.
Loading the bottles is pretty easy. Unlike dishwashers with their Tetris-like loading, the Brezza has designated spots for each bottle and part. So, it’s very intuitive.
The design of the bottle washer accommodates all major brands. While I mostly used Dr. Brown’s bottles, I tested Philips Avent and Comotomo bottles I had around the house. Those fit just as well.
In terms of pump parts, I was able to fit all of mine in the rack designed for bottles when I was pumping. It sometimes took a bit of effort to fit everything in, but it wasn’t too difficult.
I recently tried the new Breast Pump Parts Rack to see how well it worked compared to the standard rack. The design of this rack allows it to fit parts from any brand, including wearable pumps. There are two powerful spray arms to wash everything, including flanges, shields, collection cups, valves/membranes and storage bottles.
Overall, I was impressed. It fit my old pump parts easily. While you might need to change racks depending on what you're cleaning, the added convenience makes it worth the extra cost.
Selecting a cycle is easy. Simply turn the machine on and press the button: once for wash, twice for wash and dry, and three times for a complete clean and dry. There’s a separate button for the sterilize-and-dry, sterilize-only, and dry-only cycles. The buttons are easy to press and the low-tech digital interface is easy to read.
The washing process is easy. You will need to add one of Baby Brezza’s detergent tablets after loading. Keep in mind that the machine's design ensures it works only with these tablets. While the machine comes with a small supply, you will need to keep purchasing them.
Washing, drying and sterilizing take only as much time as it would with a similar machine that merely sterilizes. No more scrubbing with a bottle brush or wasting a ton of water rinsing your bottles. It’s also less messy. Still, you may want to have bottle soap and a brush on hand in case you need to wash a bottle in a pinch.
In terms of noise, you can hear the Bottle Washer Pro running, but it’s fairly quiet. However, it does beep when finished.
The drying process is quite effective. The bottles are truly dry and there is rarely any excess moisture.
The drying cycle takes 60 minutes, which is much faster than letting your bottles air dry.
This machine flawlessly cleans everything from old milk (even those forgotten overnight in the car) to sticky pump parts. I don’t pre-rinse my bottles or pump parts and everything comes out clean and dry—definitely better than manual cleaning. Even those narrow anti-colic devices don’t challenge the power of the Brezza.
While I haven’t tested the bacteria levels before and after using the machine, it does get very steamy and my daughter has never gotten sick from dirty bottles. So, it’s fair to say it works as advertised. This is also superior to manually cleaning bottles or manually cleaning and using a countertop sterilizer.
The bottles dry very easily. The only time they may not come out completely dry is if you haven’t descaled the machine in a while. Regular descaling is necessary to maintain the machine, just like with a coffee maker.
Forget scrubbing and sterilizing; simply empty the bottle and place it in the Brezza. So, it’s a matter of seconds versus minutes.
I barely hear when the bottle washer is running. It’s quieter than a dishwasher.
That said, you can hear it beep in the next room to signal that your bottles are clean. But it’s a short beep that’s not very irritating in the grand scheme of children’s annoying things. It has never roused my child from a nap or been a major nuisance.
Much like a dishwasher, the Baby Brezza Bottle Washer Pro more or less cleans itself. You should descale the machine every 20 uses.
Descaling is pretty easy. To descale, add descaling solution (or vinegar and water) and run a wash cycle with distilled water. It’s far less effort than descaling my espresso maker.
The brand fits all major bottle sizes and brands. So whether you aren’t sure what kind of bottle you will use or end up switching brands, the design will cover you. Now that my daughter is older, we use it for all our sippy cups, and it accommodates every brand we own.
This appliance is so fantastic and useful; I wish I'd had it from the start (though it might have been unavailable). It would have saved me so much time. Yes, it’s expensive, but as a working mom, I’m grateful for anything that ends up saving me hours of time.
The Baby Brezza Bottle Washer Pro lives up to its promise of saving time and effort with its all-in-one cleaning, sterilizing and drying functionality. Frequent bottle or pump part cleaners will find this a worthwhile investment, while occasional users may not need it.
