With the warm weather finally here, kids are most likely out riding their bikes and playing at the park, not glued to the TV. But a little bit of screen time each day is OK any time of the year. So with that in mind, here's what Netflix Canada is adding to its lineup of kids' shows and movies for June. Spoiler alert: Moana! (Which a lot of kids like even more than Frozen, believe it or not.)
Note: Age recommendations are approximate. Every kid is different—you're the best judge of what's appropriate and what your kid can handle.
Moana Best for: Ages 4+ In Ancient Polynesia, when a terrible curse incurred by the Demigod Maui reaches an impetuous Chieftain's daughter's island, she answers the Ocean's call to seek out the Demigod to set things right. Warning: The super-catchy songs in this Disney film, especially "How Far I'll Go" (sung by Canada's own Alessia Cara), will be stuck in your head all day long. Available June 20.
Kate & Mim-Mim (season 2) Best for: Ages 2+ A little girl and her toy bunny go on trips to a magical world, where their pretend adventures help them solve real-world problems. Available June 1.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children Best for: Ages 12+ When Jacob discovers clues to a mystery that stretches across time, he finds Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. But the danger deepens after he gets to know the residents and learns about their special powers. Available June 1.
Uncle Buck Best for: Ages 12+ Comedy great John Candy gives a signature performance as a notoriously irresponsible uncle left to care for his brother’s kids during a family crisis. Note: This classic film is definitely better suited to older kids; it contains strong language and mild sexual content. Available June 22.
Free Rein (season 1) Best for: TBD, but it's marketed as family-friendly After befriending a mysterious horse during a summer in the English countryside, 15-year-old Zoe finds the strength to deal with issues she faces. Available June 23.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie Best for: Ages 8+ When the vile villain Ivan Ooze is released from his ancient prison, he seeks vengeance against his captor: the leader of the Power Rangers. Available June 1.
Little Witch Academia (season 1) Best for: Ages 8+ The enthusiastic but somewhat under-talented Akko, along with friends Lotte and Sucy, trains to be a witch at Luna Nova Magical Academy. Available June 30.
World of Winx (season 2) Best for: Ages 9+ Armed with evolved powers, the Winx fairies fight monsters and dark magic to defeat the evil Queen and return Peter Pan spirit to the World of Dreams. Available June 16.
