Celebrity baby names: What do you think of "Maple" Bateman?

Everyone's talking about Jason Bateman's "Maple Sylvie." Is it another bizarre celebrity baby name? What do you think: yea or nay?

Celebrity baby names: What do you think of "Maple" Bateman?

I've been thinking about Jason Bateman's birth announcement. And it occurred to me that he and his wife, Amanda Anka, couldn't WAIT to come out with what really is an unusual baby name: Maple Sylvie.

Sure, it's not as weird as some of THESE baby names. I guess, when you think about it, it's kind of at an Apple level of weirdness.... But it's not quite at the "Bear Blu" level.

So, I suppose that's where I'd put it: a notch lower than Apple on a scale of Sarah to Bear Blu — somewhere in the middle.

What do you think?

Is it as different as Robert Downey Jr.'s Exton? Probably, but not as classic sounding....

How about Victoria and David Beckham's Harper Seven? Sure, but not as high-fashion-able....

Jessica Alba's Honor and Haven? Not as abstract....

Pink and Carey Hart's Willow Sage? Not as poetic....

Alanis Morissette's Ever Imre? Not as abstract and poetic....

I don't know! All I know is that I like the name "Maple" for a girl. Kind of like I actually like the name "Apple." It's a sweet, syrupy, pretty little name. Plus, Amanda Anka is Canadian, so bonus points for the Canadiana, eh?

UPDATE: So my friend Emma Waverman (yes, the hilarious Emma Waverman) just tweeted me that she thinks "Maple Bateman" sounds like "Maple Bacon." At first, I was in denial, and was like, NO WAY. But then I said it out loud, and it really did sound like Maple Bacon. So a lot of people think it's totally fake now.... I don't, though, FYI.

How about you? Do you like the name Maple? What do you think of it?
