If you've never breastfed, the idea can conjure up some pretty idyllic images. You might picture a mom and baby relaxing peacefully in a recliner. The mom has a contented look on her face as her infant latches and feeds effortlessly. Both enjoy this bonding time filled with eye contact and skin-to-skin cuddles. It’s calming just to think about…

But it's not the whole picture! To be fair, that idea of breastfeeding is partly true. It is a great way for moms and infants to bond, and it has several benefits for babies' and moms' health. But when you're jolted awake at 3 a.m. by the squeals of a ravenous newborn who promptly falls asleep at the boob or have your nursing toddler clamp down on your nipple with razor-sharp teeth, the picture is a little less perfect. Breastfeeding also doesn’t always come naturally, and new moms are often plagued by latching issues, milk supply concerns and extreme exhaustion.

The rollercoaster of breastfeeding is so intense that sometimes it helps to laugh, too. Enter these breastfeeding memes. From being thirsty enough to chug a five-gallon bottle of water to upping your portion size to an entire pizza and being so used to having your breasts out that you nearly leave the house that way, they're all as hilarious as they are highly relatable. So when you're scrolling your phone in the midst of a midnight nursing session, rest assured that you're not alone—tons of moms out there are feeling the same way you are. And some are making memes to prove it!
