Simon Cowell: Baby on the way!

There's a nice wintry photo for a lovely summer day. Writing to you still from gorgeous Vermont. Kids are at camp for the day, and I'm looking out on green mountains right now. GORJ!

So, big baby news today: X Factor's Simon Cowell is going to be a dad. And the story's a little bit juicy....

According to US Weekly, the 53-year-old music mogul is having a baby with NYC socialite Lauren Silverman, 36. This a shocker because Simon's always said he wasn't made for fatherhood ("God, no. I couldn't have children," he's said. "With kids, you've got a routine you can't escape from"), but there's more....

Lauren's kind of still married... to Simon's good friend, Andrew Silverman. And she's reportedly going to leave Andrew for Simon now that there's a baby involved.

"Lauren and Andrew have been unhappy in their marriage for sometime, and their divorce has been in the works for a while," says a source for the mag. "As their marriage deteriorated, she and Simon became close."

Interesting.... Simon's a little rough around the edges, but I think he'll make a good dad. Despite the scandals and his famously harsh exterior, I do think he's a softy. And, as I like to remind us every once in a while, this is all just the gossip. No one really ever knows what's true in Hollywood.
