Sarah Michelle Gellar: Mom guilt, work and marriage

We've been seeing a lot of Sarah Michelle Gellar, 36, in the media lately. It looks like she and even her very private hubby of 11 years, Freddie Prinze Jr., are returning to the spotlight.

I have to admit, I picked up the November issue of More Magazine the other day just because she was on the cover. I'm not sure why I was drawn to her on that particular day; but I was a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan (HUGE), and I'm always interested to see how these former child stars recreate themselves as they journey through parenthood.

In the November issue of More, Sarah Michelle says compartmentalizing her life is the key to making her Hollywood marriage work. "A separate life," she says. "I always say I'm Sarah Michelle Gellar when I work and Sarah Prinze in the other life. I don't know if there is a secret — if I had a secret, I'd write a book and retire. But we talk. We check in."

These days, moreover, the mom of two describes herself as "younger" and "goofier" — more settled since her Buffy days, which, because of all the night scenes, often involved "barely making it home to bed."

With her new The Crazy Ones TV show, the manageable hours allow her to balance work and motherhood. "I'm in every scene but one," she says, "yet I was either with my kids in the morning or there to put them to bed every night we shot."

But, like most of us, she's still got that good ol' mom guilt. "If I have extra time, I want to be with my kids," she says. "I still have that mom guilt. I haven't had a facial since my first child was born." She says she's even joined a mom group to give her a semblance of balance.

Sarah Michelle and Freddie are, of course, parents to Charlotte, 4, and baby Rocky, 1.
