Feminist Ryan Gosling: I do have a little girl now
He speaks! Feminism is important to Canadian heartthrob Ryan Gosling—especially now that he has a daughter.
Ryan Gosling has spoken! And we are listening. Of course, we are listening. (And drooling a little maybe.)
Naturally, the Canadian heartthrob, and new dad to nine-month-old Esmeralda, has said yet another magical thing to make us all fall even more in love with him. It also helps that, with "hey girl" and "Feminist Ryan Gosling" memes, he's somewhat of a feminist icon!
When asked in the latest Telegraph's Sunday Style section about feminism, he talked about how he's inspired by the women in his life. The famously private actor even gave a nod to all the women he's surrounded by.
“I mean, look," he said, "I have very strong female characters in my life. I grew up with strong women and the amount of them grows exponentially as time goes on, in my world. And that’s my reality. So, I just tend to gravitate towards stories with strong female characters.”
And he gave a shout-out to little Esmerelda!
“I didn’t make those [memes], you know?" Ryan said when asked about all those memes we love. "It’s not by design. But I do have a little girl now and it’s important to me." Awwww.
"These things are becoming…not more important to me, but more important in general," he added. "There are lots of great women out there who I really admire: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, the Broad City girls [Abbi Abrams and Ilana Wexler], Lena Dunham and Kathryn Bigelow. I don’t know, it just seems like it’s happening.”

Ryan's latest work was his directorial debut, Lost River, starring Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan and wife Eva Mendes.
