Review

Nothing gives a new parent the warm and fuzzies quite like the sight of a peacefully sleeping baby. One key part in creating a safe and cozy environment is choosing the right crib. A good crib will deliver comfort, security and joy to you and your little one for years. The Foundry Convertible Crib is a great choice for all of those reasons— and its 4-in-1 design allows parents to easily convert from crib, to toddler bed, to daybed and, eventually, a full-sized bed, so your little one can rest easy for years to come (and you can save all that cash)! The results are in, and all of our parent testers agree that the Foundry’s solid-wood construction is sturdy, and that the crib is stylish, affordable and easy to assemble.

Assembly

The Foundry Convertible Crib is a dream to put together, taking just over 30 minutes for one person — and even less for one of our parent testers, who had their partner help out. With only five pieces and 16 screws in the box, it couldn’t have been more straightforward. An instructions packet comes securely fastened to the frame, with all the screws and tools you’ll need included—no fumbling around the junk drawer to find the right allen wrench. The step-by-step instructions are well laid-out, with diagrams to guide you through. We suggest taking all the pieces out of the box, which is quite large and cumbersome, and assembling the crib in the room you’re going to be keeping it. Getting the assembled crib through any door afterwards would be near impossible.

Assembly tip: Take care when tightening some of the screws, as to not scratch the finish with the allen wrench in some of the tighter spaces between rungs.

It took less than 30 minutes for my husband and I (and our 19 month old toddler) to assemble the crib. Being six months pregnant, I definitely needed his help maneuvering the bulky box. —Ivana, mother of two

Ease of Use

It’s all about reliability, safety and comfort with the Foundry. Once assembled, the rock-solid crib doesn’t budge, perfect for when parents need to lean against the frame to reach their baby. A key feature is the mattress frame, which is adjustable to three heights, allowing it to be lowered as your little one grows and stands, preventing them from climbing out of the crib. With only four screws to remove, all it takes is 10 minutes and presto, the metal mattress frame is adjusted!

The higher setting made it easier on my back to place our sleeping boy, and the lower setting made it safe for him when he learned to stand. — Yvonne, mother of one

Versatility is where the Foundry really shines. It easily converts from crib to toddler bed (toddler rail sold separately, $99), to day bed, and finally to a full-size bed (conversion rail and slat kit sold separately ($229), making it perhaps the only bed parents will need for years to come. Second or third baby on the way? Just convert it back down to whatever configuration suits your needs, without the build losing any of its strength and integrity.

I like that we can turn this crib into a toddler bed. The crib converts to a daybed and a full bed headboard but before we use it as such, I have a feeling it will get passed down when we decide to have a second baby. I can tell by the quality of this crib that it will be able to last us a lifetime. —Yvonne, mother of one

Quality & Sustainability

Across the board, our parent testers gave top marks for the quality of the Foundry Convertible Crib. With the pieces made from a mixture of Asian hardwood and poplar veneers, testers were impressed with its sturdiness, commenting that the materials were well sealed, didn’t absorb moisture and were easy to clean – perfect for any goopy hands it might encounter! Even though the crib doesn’t come with teething rails, all the materials, including the metal, have been tested and approved to be non-toxic. What’s more, the wood used is Greenguard Gold Certified, which means it meets sustainability standards, a feature our testers rated as very important to their families. While every parent hopes for a lot of sleeping to happen in this crib, there will also be tons of jumping and bouncing. Rest assured, the well-built steel spring frame beneath the mattress is strong enough to take it!

I don't stop to think of the integrity of the obviously sturdy structure. —Yvonne, mother of one

Aesthetic & Style

If you’re designing your nursery with a traditional or even a natural look in mind, the Foundry Convertible Crib will fit with your decor perfectly, but its classic lines and refined brushed pewter finish will look great among a variety of other aesthetics and colour combinations, too. The crib measures roughly 4.5-feet long by 2.5-feet wide, so it’s a good idea to measure the space and ensure the crib you choose doesn’t dominate the room and leave you with little space to breathe.

The unique pewter finish isn’t something you see often with cribs. Having said that, it gives it a very grand feel/look. —Ivanna, mother of two

Value

It’s a jungle out there when it comes to hunting for a crib that suits your needs, style choices, and fits within your budget. With the Foundry, all of our parent testers agreed that the $749 price tag is well worth the money, with half of them saying they’d even pay more. Considering the years of use a family could get out of it, and comparable higher-end models sold for hundreds of dollars more, the Foundry certainly offers great value.

Final Word

The Foundry Convertible Crib is a solid, high quality, 4-in-1 convertible crib that will stand up to whatever your family can throw its way — and look good while doing it. Easy to assemble and made with sustainable and non-toxic hardwood materials, this crib offers great value for the money. It’s perfect for parents looking for furniture that’ll grow up with their kids.

I love this crib. It’s very stylish and goes perfectly with the decor of my nursery. I love that it will turn into a toddler bed! I would absolutely recommend it to my friends and family.” —Kathleen, mother of one
