8 Best Toddler Sleeping Bag Picks 2024

If you’re worried about your toddler waking up throughout the night or are simply kicking off a family-friendly sleepover, behold the best toddler sleeping bag options to solve—and improve—all your bedtime woes.

What to look for in the best toddler sleeping bag

As an adult, it’s easy to find a sleeping bag to satisfy your needs. When it comes to buying one for our little ones, there are many factors to consider to ensure they stay cozy and warm all night.

“Prioritize safety, then convenience, for a comfortable and secure sleeping experience. Consider factors such as temperature rating, size, material, features and price,” says Dr. Shelby Harris, Director of Sleep Health at Sleepopolis.

Kids grow at a rapid pace, so Harris advises parents to “choose a size that fits the toddler's current height to make sure they stay comfortable and warm. Opt for a soft, breathable material that is flame-retardant for added safety.”

Harris recommends a sleeping bag with a temperature rating of 0 F or lower, which is a superior choice for most people sleeping outdoors in winter. “Some popular fabrics for colder seasons include wool, down, and synthetic,” she adds.  For warmer days, a sleeping bag with a temperature rating of 60-7 °F is ideal for most toddlers.

One key thing to take note of is zipper placement, for both safety and convenience in toddler sleeping bags. “Top zippers are generally safer as toddlers cannot reach them, while two-way zippers allow easy access for changing diapers or checking on the toddler,” Harris explains.

“Zipper guards prevent accidental opening. Consider accessibility for parents and the toddler's sleeping position when choosing zipper placement.” It's also important to note that toddler sleeping bags are entirely different from baby sleep sacks.
