RECALL: 2 Ikea safety gates

IKEA and Health Canada have issued a recall for two safety gates after serious injuries were reported.

Health Canada has announced the recall of two IKEA Canada child safety gates—Patrull Klamma and Patrull Smidig pressure-mounted safety gates with the date 1510 or older (you can find the date and article number of your gate on the lower bar). See the full list of recalled products below.

IKEA Canada and Health Canada say it's not safe to use the gates at the top of the stairs because they don't stay put—posing a fall hazard. And the bar at the bottom poses a tripping hazard. These gates are not meant to be placed at the top of the stairs.

According to IKEA, four incidents have been reported in Canada. Eighteen incidents have been reported internationally, with serious injuries in Sweden, Denmark and Norway.

The gates have been sold across Canada and the US from August 1995 to February 2015.
