This smart baby monitor has WiFi and non-WiFi options, making it one of the most flexible options on the market.
There are a lot of opinions when it comes to must-have newborn gear. Some will tell you it’s necessary to have a bouncer, while others will be resolute that you need an infant car seat, not a convertible one. One thing no one will dispute, however, is that you’ll need a good baby monitor to make sure your baby is safe and give you peace of mind.
There are a ton of smart baby monitors on the market, to the point where it can be overwhelming (and everyone seems to insist that the one they use is the best). However, once I learned about Momcozy’s 5-Inch Dual-Mode Smart Baby Monitor, it became clear I needed to try it because of a few key functions. So, I put it to the test.
If you are pregnant or already have a child, you are likely familiar with the Momcozy brand, which makes state-of-the-art, reliable and easy-to-use baby gear. And the 5-Inch Dual-Mode Smart Baby Monitor is no exception.
A truly 21st-century piece of equipment, the monitor works with or without WiFi, allowing for more flexibility, and comes with a camera and a parent unit. The parent unit can be plugged in, or you can opt for adding batteries that give a run time of up to 20 hours. You can also choose to monitor your baby remotely via the Momcozy app.
Real-time alerts — including cry alerts, temperature monitoring and humidity monitoring — dedicated safe zones and a clear 1080P HD picture, even during night vision mode, enable safer, better sleep for baby and parents. Up to 20 family members can have video access to monitor from afar or even pop on the two-way audio to say hi to an older baby. You can also capture milestones and memories, ensuring you can watch the first time your baby stands in their crib or rolls over again and again.
The first thing I noticed when I received the Momcozy 5-Inch Dual-Mode Smart Baby Monitor was that the box it was shipped in was relatively small. This might not sound like a huge deal, but the amount of box waste my family generates is enormous, so I always appreciate when a brand can make packaging as compact as possible.
The box included the parent unit, camera, wall mount bracket, adapters for the US, EU, and UK, camera and monitor charging cables, and mounting screws. It clearly outlined safety instructions and instructions on how to charge the monitor and power up the camera. I like that the camera has a solid base, so I chose to forgo mounting it in favour of placing it on my child’s bookshelf. The camera swivels, pans and tilts, so I wasn’t worried about getting a clear picture from this vantage point.
I then paired the camera with the parent unit, which was intuitive and easy to do. I also downloaded the Momcozy app for monitoring on the go. I wasn’t aware of this until I downloaded the app, but the brand has all its smart devices there, such as the breast pumps and sound machines, which makes it easy to track everything in one place. Crib updates came in real-time and the picture was crystal clear, even at night.
Another feature I liked was that it was easy for my mom to access; she likes to watch my baby as she falls asleep. Other smart monitors don’t allow additional users or charge to have them on the account, so I appreciate you can add up to 20 users on one device.
The Momcozy 5-Inch Dual-Mode Smart Baby Monitor has one feature that makes it superior to all other monitors I’ve tried: it has an app and a physical monitor. Having already been through the research with my first child, this was one of the biggest blind spots I noticed when researching smart baby monitors. Relying exclusively on an app can be an issue if you have childcare help, like a babysitter, who needs access to the monitor and isn’t willing to or can’t download the app. Plus, the parent unit, which is roughly the size and weight of a smartphone, can be plugged in or used with batteries if you need to move it from room to room. It was easy to operate and keep next to my bed, and I set it so that it only kicked on when a cry alert was triggered, allowing me to sleep, too.
