How we're preparing for fall and a new baby.
The editors at Today's Parent are parents, too. We're dealing with tantrums, meal planning and keeping our kids happy and safe—just like you are. So check out what's in our shopping carts this month. You just might find something you've been looking for.
*While we would genuinely buy every item on this list, some were gifted.
If your kids are anything like mine, they're not that into clothes. They appreciate a comfy hoodie or a graphic tee but beyond one surprise request for a blazer, they randomly pull stuff out of their drawers and that's their outfit.
Every once in a while though, I like to buy them something I think is stylish. And Fall, both fashion's best season and the true new year for parents, seems like a good time.
French clothing line Sézane has a cult following (there are Facebook groups dedicated to reselling popular styles) and its Petit line for kids will likely be no different. The line launched on September 1 and it includes a selection of stylish, versatile options—some even match adult styles. These are instant classics and while pricey, are a great investment if you have more than one kid. Many of the clothes are genderless and can easily become hand-me-downs.
Like a sweatshirt that buttons up the front, this jacket is comfortable and stylish. And hopefully, different enough from the rest of the hoodies on the playground that when your kid leaves it on a bench, it's easily recognizable.
Not only is this measuring tape adorable, it's fully functional. With eight feet of tape that rewind with the push of a button, kids can measure furniture, toys and themselves. Or they can use it for crafts and projects. The tapes come in bird styles on Amazon and birds and dogs on the Handy Famm website.
Artist and designer Pharrell Williams (famous with kids because of his song "Happy") has collaborated with LEGO on this beautiful rocket-ship set called Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams, inspired by the animated bio-pic about the artist. Piece by Piece premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and sees Pharrell and contemporaries like Snoop Dogg and Gwen Stefani rendered as LEGO minifigures. It hits theatres on October 11.
LEGO is always an educational toy, encouraging fine motor and STEM skills and when you end up with a piece of art like this, it's a bonus.
Our head of brand is expecting baby no. 2 this winter and with a six-year age gap between babies, she's stocking up on new and better baby must-haves.
Comfort is key when breastfeeding a newborn. This nursing bra is not only pretty but it's made of supersoft micromodal. The fabric is natural, breathable and won't irritate skin. It comes in XS to XXL, which ranges in bra sizes from 30A to 40F.
It takes having a baby to realize just how many bottles, pacifiers and breast pump parts need to be washed and sterilized. This handy device sterilizes up to six bottles at a time, plus accessories. It has 4.5 stars on Amazon and reviewers rave about how convenient it is.
Having a good baby carrier is a necessity for baby number two. Your job as a parent has just grown by one whole person so you often need to have both hands available. The Ergobaby 360 is a classic for a reason. You can carry babies from six months facing you or facing out. And as baby grows you can carry them on your hip or your back. This is a baby item you'll use for years.
