Mini Spanish tortillas

This dish brings a Spanish-inspired meal to your table with a bit of a North American twist. These individual Spanish tortillas pack a lot of protein (in the eggs) and can be slightly modified to suit each of your picky eaters. If you can't get real chorizo, try substituting it for pork sausage marinated with garlic, cumin and cilantro.

Best fried egg sandwich

This is the at-home twist on McDonald's famous Egg McMuffin. Not only is this recipe much healthier than the fast-food alternative, but you can bring your family together by preparing this breakfast as a team. Make some even healthier choices by using turkey bacon and egg whites instead of the original.

Oatmeal flax chocolate chip cookies

Tuck these inside lunch boxes for camp (or packed them for a road trip) and know your child is snacking on something special. Slightly nutty-tasting, high-fibre barley flour takes the place of standard white flour, and ground flaxseeds supply healthy fat while giving this cookie crunch.

Crazy self-cooking hot dog

This is a mixture of a craft, a DIY project and preparation for dinner. This can only have been invented out of desperation or insanity. Whatever, it's fun and, yes, it works. Kids  don't even think of doing this without adult supervision.
