If your kids are turning their noses up at plain rice, try this fun sesame-studded sticky rice balls recipe instead, inspired by reader Christine Hayes of Petitcodiac, NB. It's vegetarian and gluten-free.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup water

  • 1 cup sushi rice, well rinsed and drained

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 3/4 cup toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Combine water, rice and salt in a small pot and bring to a boil. Cover pot, turn heat to low and simmer gently for 15 min or until water is absorbed and rice is cooked.

  • Remove from heat and let stand 5 min. When rice has cooled slightly, wet hands and roll into 1-in. balls. Roll in sesame seeds to coat. Serve warm or at room temperature.
