These spiced nuts are perfect for make-ahead nibbles.
1/2 cup maple syrup, or honey
2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
2 cups mixed unsalted nut, (almonds, pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, pepitas)
2 tbsp granulated sugar
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Stir together maple syrup, salt, black pepper, allspice and cayenne. Add nuts and toss to coat well. Lay coated nuts on the baking sheet, spreading them out as much as possible so they don’t stick together too much. Bake for 10 min.
Sprinkle sugar over the nuts and give them a stir. Return nuts to the oven and bake for about 5 more min, until fragrant and medium brown, and sugar and spices adhere together. Let nuts cool on the baking sheet. When nuts are cool, break them apart if needed, and serve.
