Blackberry Soda Syrup

Impress everyone with this easy-to-prepare homemade soda syrup.


  • 5 cups blackberries

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 cup water

  • black gel food colouring, optional


  • In a large saucepan, combine blackberries, sugar and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium.

  • Gently simmer, stirring occasionally, until mixture turns syrupy, 25 to 30 min. Remove from heat. Cool, then strain. Stir in black gel food colouring until desired colour, if using.

  • To serve, pour syrup into a glass pitcher or bottle with ice, then add soda water to taste
