1/3 cup unsalted butter
185 g bittersweet chocolate, chopped
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
pinch salt
2 cups vanilla ice cream
2 cups mixed berries
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp Cointreau
2 cups vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup candy-covered chocolates
1/2 cup gummy bears, cookie pieces, berries and/or marshmallows
In saucepan over medium heat, melt together butter and chocolate. Let cool slightly.
Whisk in sugar, one egg at a time, vanilla and chocolate chips. Stir in flour and salt.
Scrape into 2 greased 8-inch (2 L) round cake pans; bake in the centre of a 350F (180C) for about 15 minutes, or until top is set. Let cool completely. Remove from pans and transfer to cake plates.
For adults: Top cooled base with ice cream. In a bowl, combine berries, sugar and Cointreau. Sprinkle berries over ice cream and serve immediately.
For kids: Top cooled base with ice cream. Sprinkle with candies, cookies and confections.
