How can you not love something called a snickerdoodle? Just saying the name puts a person in a good mood. And eating the cookie is even better.
2 2/3 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup butter
2/3 cup maple syrup
2 eggs
granulated sugar, for rolling cookies
In a mixing bowl, have your child stir together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and cinnamon.
Here comes the fun part. First dump some sugar into a flattish bowl or pie plate. Now, by hand, form the dough into 1 in. (2 cm) balls and roll the balls in the granulated sugar until coated all over. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet, leaving a little room between for expansion. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 8 to 10 minutes, until lightly browned on bottom, but still soft to the touch.
