Want a sure way to secure a snow-shovelling helper? Bribe them with a creamy cup of hot chocolate with a tricked-out stir stick.
1 L milk
½ cup chopped dark chocolate
⅓ cup chopped white chocolate
marshmallow
candy canes
whipped cream
In a medium saucepan set over medium-high, bring milk to a simmer, then reduce to medium-low. Whisk in dark and white chocolate. Let simmer, whisking often, until chocolate melts, 1 to 2 min. Make it fancy with marshmallows, candy cane sticks and whipped cream.
For malted milk: Stir in 1/2 cup malted milk powder, such as Ovaltine. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with chopped malt-chocolate balls. For Mexican spice: Stir in 1/2 tsp cinnamon and ⅛ tsp each nutmeg and cayenne. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with more cinnamon. For chocolaccino: Stir in 1 tsp espresso powder. Top with frothed milk and shaved chocolate.
