Basic Dough

Keep an easy go-to dough recipe in your arsenal for quick weeknight meals.


  • 1 8-g pkg traditional active dry yeast
  • 1/4 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup warm water , divided
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • 3/4 tsp salt


  • In a large bowl, stir together yeast, sugar and 1/2 cup warm water. Let stand until cloudy and bubbly, about 5 min. Stir in remaining
    1/2 cup warm water, flour, oil and salt. Stir until dough starts to come together. Transfer dough to a well-floured surface.
  • Knead until dough is smooth, about 5 to 6 min. Lightly coat same bowl with oil, and return dough to bowl. Cover loosely with a damp kitchen towel and let stand until dough doubles in size, about 1 hour.
