Dry indoor air, especially during the cold winter months, can wreak havoc on your skin, sinuses and sleep. Investing in a quality humidifier will enhance the moisture levels in your home and can help alleviate health concerns that come with dry weather. The HoMedics MyBaby SoundSpa Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier is a great option for families looking for the functionality of a humidifier combined with a sound machine and a night light all in one.
Our editors appreciated the HoMedics MyBaby SoundSpa Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier's discreet, compact design and portability—it is small enough to sit perfectly on top of a dresser or table. The humidifier holds more than 3.5 litres of water, and was very efficient in converting water to mist, using 0.25 litres when tested on the medium setting for an hour. It has four settings (low, medium-low, medium-high, high) and is recommended for a space of approximately 240 sq. ft. or less, making it perfect for bedrooms and nurseries. The HoMedics humidifier also has an auto shut-off feature that is triggered when the tank runs dry, making it ideal for families who may forget to refill it due to busy schedules.
Setting up the HoMedics humidifier was very easy—it comes with a five-step guide that includes pictures. The water tank is teardrop shaped, and has a small opening to fill water. Unfortunately, this means you'll have to hold the reservoir while pouring the water in, which is a bit of a pain, but not a deal breaker. The humidifier comes with a demineralization cartridge that you simply toss into the tank. It needs to be replaced every 30 to 40 fillings, or as soon as you notice an increase of white dust build up. HoMedics recommends cleaning the tank every two to three weeks with a simple solution involving equal parts of lukewarm water and vinegar.
Doctors often recommend using a humidifier in the bedroom to help ease cold and flu symptoms. They can also help with allergies, dry eyes and skin, and scratchy throats. Many of our parent testers noted that their children experienced fewer allergy and cold symptoms while using the HoMedics MyBaby SoundSpa Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier, and they also noticed improvements in their own health.
Aside from being a humidifier, the HoMedics MyBaby SoundSpa Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier is also a sound machine and night light. The built in sound machine has a volume control and comes with four soothing sounds: Summer Night, Heartbeat, White Noise and Lullaby—all of which can be set to automatically turn off after 30 minutes with the sleep mode function. Families who tested this humidifier fell in love with this feature—especially those with younger children and babies. We also liked that the humidifier is quite quiet, and that the volume level doesn't increase noticeably in relation to the fan speed, so even running it on high in a bedroom shouldn't be disruptive.
The night light feature was another hit with our testers. The control panel area lights up with a soft glow, making it easy to read and understand even with the lights off. Parents appreciated that they were able to use a three-in-one product that served all their needs. In fact, all of our testers were so impressed with this little unit they said they would recommend it to other parents and buy it again for themselves.
The HoMedics humidifier retails for $100 CAD, and our testers feel the product is worth it. Many pointed out that the cost of the three elements (humidifier, night light, sound machine) combined would likely add up to more than the price of the HoMedics MyBaby SoundSpa, and take up more space, too. Though a couple of testers wished there were more programming options, the majority were happy with the built-in settings and thought the HoMedics humidifier was an effective and easy-to-use machine that met their needs and performed better than others they had used in the past.
If you’re looking for a sensible humidifier that offers a three-in-one deal with a budget-friendly price tag, the HoMedics MyBaby SoundSpa Ultrasonic Cool Mist humidifier is the one for you. Our editors and parent testers felt it hit the mark on multiple levels, and especially enjoyed that they were able to use it in living spaces throughout the house. The four comforting sound options are a huge bonus, and the simple set up makes it a dream for any parent looking for a quick solution to their dry-air conundrums.
