Seventh Generation Natural Dish Liquid proves plant-based products can be as effective—and sometimes more so—than non-eco competitors. This impressive dish soap is tough on stuck-on food, but gentle enough for those with sensitive skin, and it comes in a fragrance-free formula, making it a great go-to for those with scent sensitivities. Today's Parent Approved editors and parents who tried this dishwashing liquid at home found it made quick work of washing up dishes, baby bottles, pots and pans—everything including the kitchen sink. You are going to pay a bit of a premium for the high performance and 95-percent biobased ingredients, but editors and parent testers alike felt it well worth the slightly above-average price tag.
In our lab testing, dried-on macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and grease smears were no match for Seventh Generation Natural Dish Liquid. After a quick five-minute soak, regular washing was all it took to lift foods and leave dishes squeaky clean—no scrubbing required. Editors also noted that suds rinsed easily. Parent testers were also happy with how well this soap performed on greasy messes and stubborn, crusty stains (the kind you normally leave to soak), with little scrubbing needed. It also took care of residue on drinking glasses and baby bottles, leaving them spot-free, and even faded pre-existing stains on dishes. One mom told us she loved how well this dish soap cleaned her baby bottles and noted that it costs less than other soaps specifically intended for that purpose.
Dish soap isn't exactly difficult to use, but the bottle can make dispensing with wet hands easier or more challenging. The contoured shape of the Seventh Generation Natural Dish Liquid bottle is easy to grip when wet, and the flip-top cap can be flicked open with a finger or thumb. The narrow opening in the cap makes it easy to pour a precise amount, so you don’t waste any product.
Our parent testers also liked that the ingredients list included a brief description of each item—which is helpful because, let's face it, most of us have no idea what lauramine oxide is.
Plant-based dish soaps have a bit of a reputation for not being as effective on the dirtiest of dishes, but Seventh Generation Natural Dish Liquid really delivers, with excellent grease-fighting power. Editors and parent testers were impressed with the performance of this plant-based dish soap, with most testers saying it works better than other dish soaps they've used. While the price point is above average, multiple parents commented on how long the bottle lasted, and all of our testers said they'd purchase it next time they're buying dish soap.
