Review

If you're looking for a straightforward pacifier, the Playtex Binky Silicone Pacifier is a great place to start. Its round, silicone nipple is meant to simulate the shape of a mother's nipple, and its shield has a classic shape with a cutaway for baby's nose. It also comes in many cute designs and colours, and has a handle, so you can attach a pacifier clip if you like.

You'll probably need to try a few different pacifiers before you find something that your baby decides is "the one," and the Binky's nipple shape makes it a good choice to throw in the mix. For our hands-on parent testers, it took at least a few days of trying before they felt sure about whether or not their child was a fan—which is about what we'd expect with any pacifier.

Before you give a new pacifier to your baby: 1. Check the nipple by pulling it in all directions to look for any manufacturing defects. 2. Sterilize it by boiling for 5 minutes, or using a sterilizer in the microwave. 3. Let it cool fully, and squeeze out any water trapped in the nipple with clean hands.

While the Playtex Binky Silicone Pacifier isn't an orthodontic pacifier, you don't need to worry so much about potential dental issues if you plan to wean your baby from the soother earlier (before age two or three). Our at-home parent testers strongly agreed the Binky's construction is strong and that it holds its shape well. They also appreciated the ventilation holes in the shield (designed to prevent skin irritation).

We found the Binky very easy to clean by hand or in the dishwasher, and our testers strongly agreed. When we let it sit overnight in a sink of soapy water and a bit of spaghetti sauce, there was no noticeable discolouration or smell after we washed it, which wasn't the case with every pacifier we tested.

"I would recommend this to other parents. It's a good soother, and I like the colours." —Julie, mom of two
Final word

Parent testers rated the quality and ease of use of the Playtex Binky Silicone Pacifier as good, and said it offered very good value. They also called out the designs as "super cute." They all felt it was safe to give to their baby, and unanimously agreed it was worthy of the Today's Parent Approved seal of approval. The Binky is a good option to add to your list of pacifiers to try out.
