Live Clean Baby Lotion: Gentle Moisture and Perfume Free formulas

Most testers were also pleased with how well these lotions hydrated, from the moment of application to hours later. Checking a lot of boxes, these affordable Live Clean lotions are also plant derived, skin soothing and free of harsh chemicals.

When putting baby lotions to the test, our lab examined every detail—from each  ingredient right down to the formula’s pH. The reason for this is baby’s delicate skin has a specific pH level, around 5.5, so products with a pH too low (acidic) or too high (alkaline) can disrupt their developing natural skin barrier. The good news is we found Live Clean Baby Gentle Moisture (5.42 pH) and Perfume Free (6.49 pH) baby lotions both safe to use. 

Another feature of our favourite lotions is easy-to-use packaging, and our editors found Live Clean’s tall, slim design made one-handed application a breeze: The hinged cap was simple to flick open with a thumb, while the squeezable bottle provided lots of product control, so you can dispense just what you need. (Pay attention to the amount—a little goes a long way.) Our parent testers found Live Clean Baby Lotion long-lasting and an appropriate size for their families. Plus, their children’s skin remained moisturized throughout the day, making reapplication unnecessary.

While our testers said it was easy to keep the outside of the container clean, our editors noted some product buildup inside the cap. If you prefer to use a bottle with a pump, opt for the larger size of the Gentle Moisture lotion. Unfortunately, the Perfume Free formula isn’t yet available in this packaging.

Both Live Clean Baby Lotions have similar textures which our editors and parent testers enjoyed; however, our lab found the Perfume Free variety poured out easily, needing just a gentle squeeze to get the right amount. In our lab, both lotions were shiny, bright white and completely uniform in appearance. As for scent, our editors described Gentle Moisture as having a musky, baby powder smell, which was lovely on the skin but may be too strong for some. The Perfume Free formula may not have added fragrance, but it’s not necessarily scent-free. Our editors noted subtle floral notes, similar to chamomile, which could be faintly detected on the skin. 

When testing Live Clean Baby Lotion in the lab, our editors took notes five minutes, one hour and six hours after application. What stood out most was the best feature of a good lotion: hydration. Throughout the testing period, our editors' skin felt moisturized and smooth, albeit a bit greasy at first, with a noticeable moisture barrier after one hour. After six hours, skin was still silky and soft with zero residue. Our parent testers also found these lotions absorbed quickly and didn’t transfer onto clothing, and with regular use, most parents felt their children's skin was even more hydrated and soft over time. While one parent noticed her child’s eczema flared up during the Perfume Free testing period, she said there could have been other contributing factors. And the Gentle Moisture formula was found ineffective by one parent on her daughter’s skin; however, most testers had positive results. 

FINAL WORD

Live Clean Baby Lotion in both Gentle Moisture and Perfume Free formulas impressed both editors and testers for their fast-absorbing formulas, leaving skin hydrated and soft for hours after application. Most of our parent testers gave these lotions good or very good ratings for their ease of application, quality and value. One parent remarked that the products are affordable and performed just as well as, if not better than, more expensive brands she's tried. Both our editors and testers liked the generous volume of each bottle, as well as how little product was needed to cover a wide area of skin. Most parents said they would purchase these lotions and recommend them to other families. Given this, it’s no surprise most parent testers deemed Live Clean Baby Perfume Free and Gentle Moisture baby lotions worthy of the Today’s Parent Approved seal, and our editors agreed.
