Dry skin is a common issue for little ones, especially through the harsh winter months or even year-round if you live in a very dry climate. For parents, finding a soothing lotion is key to making babies and kids comfortable—particularly if your child has eczema or sensitive skin. We tested Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion in our lab, looking at a number of factors—ease of use, ingredients, texture, consistency, value—and asked parent testers to see how well it performed in regular use on their infants and toddlers.
Our editors and parent testers found Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion to be an effective product that provides lasting moisture, is easy to apply and offers great value. It’s also fragrance free and hypoallergenic, plus it doesn’t contain parabens—all things parents of kids with sensitive skin are concerned about. The only ingredient our lab flagged in the ingredient list was petroleum, which not everyone wants in their skin-care products, but most of our parents felt good about the ingredients list. Several commented that they felt this lotion was a more natural product than other brands available.
This baby lotion comes in a fairly large bottle with a pump dispenser. Because of its size and weight, it’s not as portable as tube-style containers, but it’s ideal in a nursery or on a bathroom vanity. Both editors and parent testers liked that the pump made it easy to get exactly the amount of product needed, while our editors noted the bottle was easy to keep clean.
Editors in our lab found the lotion spread well—a little went a long way—and that skin still felt soft after six hours. All of our parent testers said applying Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion was easy, though a few noted it was hard to wash off their hands and some of the lotion transferred to their child’s clothing.
While our editors thought the formula was a little milky, all of our parent testers liked the consistency. They found it immediately hydrated their child’s skin upon application and that skin was less dry with regular use. One of our parents commented that Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion even got rid of the rough spots on her toddler’s knees. Testers said they didn’t have to continually apply this moisturizer throughout the day to see results (which is great, because, really, who has time for that?). And while it’s fragrance-free, it has a mild and pleasant natural oatmeal scent our parents enjoyed.
The parent testers whose children have eczema or sensitive skin found Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion produced great results over the course of the two weeks they used it. None of our parents reported new skin sensitivities or exacerbation of any existing flare-ups.
All our parent testers gave Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion very good or good ratings for ease of use and quality, and most testers said it offered good value. Parents unanimously agreed they would recommend this lotion to others, noting the large bottle size, the portion-controlling pump and the fact that a little went a long way in providing all-day moisture as major plusses. Our editors also appreciated how easy it was to dispense a precise amount of product. Overall, our testers were quite impressed with this baby lotion, and so were we.
