Finding an amazing pair of jeans can be tough on a regular day, but throw in an ever-changing body for the nine months and it can feel like an overwhelming endeavor. We’ve rounded up the best styles that check all the boxes: comfort, style and yes, a great fit.
If you already own a great pair of jeans that you love, getting them altered to fit your tummy is a good option. “Our in-house tailors work personally with each client to find the best stretch material fitted to the individual's body and personal preferences,” says Daniel Carman, Co-Owner of Over the Rainbow in Toronto. The service costs $60 and the pregnancy panel is permanently sewn into your jeans.
If you’re buying online, choose a store that makes the full experience easy for you—preferably free shipping with a pre-paid mail slip for fuss-free returns. If you’re unsure about your size (I was for my entire pregnancy), order two sizes of each style to ensure you won’t end up frustrated or jean-less. While the general rule is to stick to your pre-pregnancy size when ordering maternity clothing, this is just a guideline. Pay attention to the cut (is it loose or slim?) as well as the amount of stretch the denim offers (1% elastane vs 5%). It makes a dramatic difference when it comes to fit.
Here are seven styles that get rave reviews when it comes to fit and value:
What we love: For earlier in pregnancy the smaller side panels are ideal so you won’t feel constricted. The stretch is also decent as your tummy grows.
