YouTube star who adopted an autistic child from China, monetized the experience with sponsored content and later “rehomed” him.
Name: Myka Stauffer Best known for: YouTube star who “rehomed” her adopted autistic child Social media: @mykastauffer on Instagram
The Ohio-based YouTuber was thrown into the spotlight after BuzzFeed broke the story of the now mom of four “rehoming” her autistic child, who she’d adopted from China. Other influencers were quick to call out Stauffer, who had roughly a million subscribers at the time, for using her journey to adopt two-year-old Huxley to raise her status on YouTube with monetized videos and a series of high-profile sponsorships. Stauffer later claimed any money she made from Huxley’s videos went toward supporting his needs and admitted she’d been “naive, foolish and arrogant” going into the adoption process.
