During a year dominated by racial unrest, this professor, author and scholar of discrimination and racial policies had three (three!) books on the New York Times bestseller lists—though he’s most famous for writing How to Be an Antiracist. Kendi is also in remission from colon cancer and dad to a four-year-old daughter. When he’s not writing for The Atlantic, doing media appearances or busy with his day job, he’s also the director of the Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University. His wife, a paediatric ER doctor, says he always makes it home for bedtime—where he presumably reads his latest bestseller, a board book for kids called Antiracist Baby.
