Why We Chose a Veer Wagon Instead of a Double Stroller

Welcoming a new baby is equal parts excitement and overwhelm, especially when choosing the right gear. When preparing for a second child six years after the first, you quickly discover how much has changed. When we had our daughter, we spent a lot of time choosing the right stroller. We went with the Uppababy Cruz and loved it. Now that we are planning for the second, we needed to decide whether to upgrade to a double stroller or go a different route.

Our daughter still gets tired on long walks or outings, so we knew swapping in the new baby with the existing stroller wasn't going to work fully for us. She's also far too tall for the second seat of the Uppababy Vista, so that option was out as well.

After much research, we decided a stroller wagon like the Veer Cruiser Wagon would be the perfect solution. We were given the opportunity to test one out before the baby arrived, and here's why we're excited about our decision.

What is a Veer Wagon?

Stroller wagons have become all the rage in the last few years, offering parents an alternative to strollers. Veer manufactures all-terrain wagons that come in different sizes depending on your family's needs. These wagons are compact, easy to set up, and have loads of accessories like cup holders, a snack tray, and even a separate storage basket, making them a customizable solution.

All of the Veer wagons come equipped to attach an infant car seat and secure it safely, similar to many strollers. This was a huge selling feature for us. It was easy to find the adapter that worked with our car seat. The push and pull options set the Veer wagons apart from many others. You are able to pull the wagon or push it like a stroller. This offers different ergonomic solutions depending on parent preference. I felt most comfortable pushing the wagon while being able to adjust the angle of the handlebar.

Why the Veer Wagon stood out

We have a few friends who already own a Veer wagon, so we have seen it in action, but testing it out ourselves impressed us even more.

Flexibility

The Veer Cruiser City is the perfect size for us. We live in a suburban residential area and mostly use our stroller for walks through the neighbourhood or at outdoor events. The Cruiser City is not too big for the sidewalk and is easy to maneuver in tight spaces.

Durability

It's easy to tell the Veer Cruiser is well-built and adaptable to different terrains. The wheels are robust, and the frame is solid. Each passenger seat's weight capacity is 55 lbs, but the wagon, including the storage areas, can hold up to 250 lbs. The Veer Cruiser XL holds double, with a max passenger capacity of 220 lbs across four seats.

Kid comfort

We've tested various wagon configurations, including the adapter with our infant car seat, the canopy and snack tray, and the toddler seat with the 3-point harness. Our daughter still fits comfortably in the second seat, leaving enough room for the baby. Even at 46 inches tall, she can have the canopy covering her without feeling too squished.

Parental convenience

Given its durability and capacity, I was nervous that the Veer wagon would be too bulky to use and store, but I have found it just as easy as our stroller. The setup was very simple, and putting it away only requires folding down the four sides and collapsing the handlebar. It fits nicely in our trunk and is easy to transport. The only part I found more cumbersome was attaching the infant car seat adapter, but that was still relatively simple, even at nine months pregnant.

Our experience with the Veer Wagon so far

We have loved testing out the Veer Wagon so far. Our six-year-old is very comfortable riding in it and even pushing it herself. I loved the storage capacity and the double cup holders that attach to the handlebar, making my tea or water well within reach. I'm excited about having an alternative solution to the stroller that still makes it easy to attach the infant seat, keep our older daughter comfortable, and have our baby grow into the wagon.

Is the investment worth it?

Like any significant investment, we wanted to make sure the Veer Wagon was worth the price tag. Our stroller has lasted six years and is still in great shape, so we knew spending the money was worth it. After talking to other Veer owners with kids of different ages and seeing how well they are built for ourselves, we are confident this wagon will last us many years. Even when our older daughter outgrows the wagon, our youngest will get lots of use out of it.

Final thoughts for parents preparing for baby #2

Although the transition from one to two kids can feel daunting and overwhelming, remember it's okay to do things differently the second time around. Whether you're getting ready for two-under-two or starting over with a full-on kindergartener, your family needs will change dramatically, and there are always new and genius products coming to market to make parents' lives easier. We know we will still get lots of use out of our stroller when this baby arrives, but the Veer wagon will be the perfect addition to make both kids feel comfortable.
