The cost of living
It takes a small fortune to raise kids these days. After daycare, diapers and outfitting your kids for school there often isn’t a lot left for much else. In that sense, where you live can really make a difference in terms of stretching your finances. It’s certainly easier for parents in Quebec, which offers subsidized daycare for families earning less than $125,000. In other provinces parents are paying out as much as they would on their mortgage for a regulated child-care space—assuming they can find one. Of course, there are still plenty of great places where parents can make a good living and surround themselves with families with kids of their own.
