Beach waves

Just-stepped-out-of-the-salt-water waves are simple to recreate, even if there’s no beach in sight.

1. After showering, run a small dab of styling cream through your hair, focusing on the ends. 2. Skip the round brush and finger-dry your hair instead. “This will create great natural texture,” says Dias. Just flip your head upside down and gently run your fingers through your hair as you blow-dry it. 3. Once you’ve removed all the moisture from your hair, flip your head back up. If you have bangs, pin them off to the side or use a brush to put them in place. 4. Define the natural waves around your face by finger-curling a few small sections. 5. Spritz some hair spray on your plams and run them over your tresses.

The fishtail braid

Apply a texturizing product, like a styling cream, to give hair some grip before you start.

1. Pull your hair into a side ponytail and divide into two equal sections. 2. Hold both sections with your right hand. Then, use your left hand to pick up a one-eighth-inch section from the outside of the left section and cross it over the left and under the right section. Next, pull it to the outermost edge of the right section. 3. Grab next section on opposite side and repeat. “Don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t look like much right away,” says Henriques. You have to get a few inches of braiding done before the fishtail will appear. 4. Continue crossing small sections over until you reach the ends of your hair. 5. Secure with an elastic. 6. Use your fingertips to gently massage the braid to get a more natural look. “If you have fine hair, use even smaller sections to make the braid look fuller,” she says.

The low bun

Instead of starting with freshly washed hair, spritz dry shampoo onto dry roots to absorb any excess oil and give your hair some texture before you start.

1. Using your fingers, gather your hair at the nape of your neck and secure loosely with an elastic. 2. Spritz some hairspray onto your hands and separate the hair into three sections to make a loose braid, finishing off with an elastic. 3. Twist the end of the braid up around the base of the ponytail to create the bun, then secure with bobby pins. 4 Spray lightly with hairspray and voila!
