The Emmys: Moms who rocked the red carpet

Giuliana Rancic, 37, took a break from her mat leave to host the Emmy red carpet. She looked sleek and rested in a lovely black Rafael Cennamo dress with hot Jimmy Choos.

When Ryan Seacrest asked her what she's been up to lately, she said, "We bought a new juicer, we painted our bedroom — oh, and we had a baby." Cute! She also shared this funny pic of hubby Bill Rancic holding the baby. I kind of love them now....

The big winner of the night — Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy (Veep)! Everyone's talking about her.

Mom-of-two Julia Louis-Dreyfus, 51, also won on the red carpet in this custom, copper-coloured Vera Wang gown with Irene Neuwirth earrings. Love the centre-parted updo on her. Beautiful!

Melissa McCarthy, 42, looked great in a pretty black gown she co-designed with Daniele Kurrle. But what totally rocked about this look was the fact that she was wearing her daughter Vivian's "flexible" purple ring — "I'm wearing it, Vivi," she said as she made it twinkle for the cameras.

Mom-of-two Julianne Moore, 51, was also a big winner last night — Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries. And she's our first-place winner for best dressed because OMG she looked amazing on the red carpet last night in this stunning yellow Dior Couture dress, Jimmy Choos and Fred Leighton jewellery. Say it with me: GORJ!

Mom-of-two Tina Fey, 42, looked amazing in this form-fitting, rich red Vivienne Westwood dress with Fred Leighton earrings.

Tina told Ryan Seacrest that this was probably her last Emmys, since 30 Rock is almost through filming its last season, "so I'm going to steal a bunch of stuff." Ha!

Mom-to-be Claire Danes, 33, was also a big winner last night — Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama. She glowed in this canary yellow Lanvin gown, which she called "bump friendly...and pretty...and yellow."

Claire says her pregnancy hasn't interfered with her work on Homeland because, she told Ryan Seacrest, "I've been really lucky to have a really gentle pregnancy."

Mom-of-two Amy Poehler, 40, didn't show the strain of her recent split with Will Arnett. She looked fit and fabulous in this sparkly black Stella McCartney dress.

The best part of the dress was the jewellery! Like Melissa McCarthy, Amy wore her kids' jewellery. It's a "$2-dollar adjustable ring from my child's toy box — he told me to wear it, and I...I listen to him!"

Mom-of-one Sophia Vergara, 40, dazzled in this sequined, turquoise Zuhair Murad mermaid gown, sparkling Neil Lane jewellery and a new engagement ring. Beautiful.... (We'll not talk about the now-famous wardrobe malfunction she tweeted a photo of — whoops!)

Congrats to mom-of-three Julie Bowen, 42! She won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy (for Modern Family).

Julie told Ryan Seacrest she thought she was probably going to lose last night because there was no pre-award-show drama at home this time around. "Someone threw up on me last year," she reminded Ryan. So last night, she says, "I kept looking at the kids going, 'Someone want to throw a popsicle at Mommy? So she can win?" Ha!

Well, it's a good thing the kids didn't take her up on the popsicle dare. Julie looked gorgeous in this striking neon yellow Monique Lhuillier gown. Love!

Mom-of-four Heidi Klum, 39, looked better than ever in this stunning sea-foam blue, low-cut, leggy Alexandre Vauthier dress, custom Charlotte Olympia shoes, and sparkling Lorraine Schwartz jewellery. Though the dress was a little (uncomfortably maybe) revealing, the colour made her glow.

If she wanted to make ex-hubby Seal kick himself for his recent bitter remarks, she succeeded!

Actress Lesley Mann, 40, was wearing another one of my favourite dresses of the night — this stunning two-tone dress by Naeem Khan. Some critics complained that the turquoise Lorraine Schwartz jewellery was a bit much with this dress, but I loved it!

Lesley Mann is mom to Maude, 14, and Iris, 9, with hubby, director Judd Apatow (and executive producer of Girls). Judd didn't look so bad himself!

Padma Lakshmi, 41, who's mom to Krishna Thea, 2, looked magnificent as always in this amazing orange Monique Lhuillier gown accented with stunning art deco jewellery by Fred Leighton.

Mom-of-one January Jones, 34, showed up in this glam Zac Posen dress and beautifully slicked-back hair.

January shared deets of baby Xander's first birthday party: "We had a barbeque — a car-themed barbeque. He just wants cars, so...." Ohh, we get it!

Still recovering from a major car accident, first-time Emmy nominee Mayim Bialik, 36, graced the red carpet in this pretty floor-length, "Bordeaux"-red Pamella Roland dress. The hand brace was also custom made for the event.

When Giuliana asked Mayim what one thing she wished someone had told her before she had kids, Mayim offered this piece of advice: "No one knows what's best for you except you or your kid." Sage!

Edie Falco, 49, looked better than ever in Stella McCartney's popular "optical illusion" dress in navy and white. Though it's not the most original dress choice, she looked totally chic and pretty.

Edie's mom to Anderson and Macy, whom she adopted in in 2005 and 2008.
