Peter wonders how other parents react when finding out about little household injuries
Peyton is recovering from her boo-boo
I was responsible for the kids last night while Lisa was working late. This is not the first time I've been alone with them, and it won’t be the last. (And no, I don’t feel like I was “babysitting” my kids!)
Unfortunately, there was a little incident with Peyton. She gets into pretty much everything these days and likes to run her fingers over the cold-air return grates on the walls in various locations around the house. We have, of course, been telling her "no" and to stop doing this because she could cut herself. So what happened last night when Lisa was working, you ask? The kid did cut herself. (Addy actually did the same thing at that age and never touched it again.) The surprising part of this incident was that Peyton didn’t even cry, she just walked up to me with blood dripping from two fingers on her outstretched hand.
I cleaned her up, put on a couple of Band-Aids and she was good as new. Since she was in bed before Lisa got home last night, the first thing she did this morning was show mommy her hand (as if to say, "Daddy wasn’t watching me last night and I hurt myself!")
Have you ever had to deal with an injury (minor or major) while alone with your kids? How did you (or your spouse) react upon finding out?
