Katherine Heigl opens up about adopting Adalaide

Aww, look at that beautiful family!

In a past issue of Hello! Canada Magazine, Katherine Heigl, 33, opens up about the recent adoption of her second daughter, Adalaide Marie Hope, with her singer-songwriter husband Josh Kelley, 32.

Here are some snippets of the very candid, emotional interview!

On when she first met Adalaide.... I walked in the house, threw down my bags and opened my arms so I could hold her.... [T]hat moment they put her in my arms I just felt an overwhelming sense of awe and wonder that this perfect little being was our daughter.

On keeping the adoption a secret.... ...We had to go get her and bring her back on the commercial flight. The best thing we did to keep suspicion at a minimum was to fly our nanny with us so she could hold Adalaide on the way back a few rows behind us. Also, when we got home we just never left the house. I sewed every day and Josh wrote her a song.

On choosing the names.... ...Adalaide because of great grandmother, Marie after my middle name, and Hope because that is what the process became.

On how 3.5-year-old Naleigh is with her new little sister.... She's great with Addey — always wants to hold her new baby sister. At the same time, her world as the only princess in the house changed immediately, so she was a bit wary at first of her new situation.

On having more kids.... ...Josh and I are in negotiations.... I'd like two more, he thinks three's a nice number, so we'll see.

Katherine also talks about the difficult time she had bonding with Naleigh when they first adopted her. And she goes on to thank the many moms whom she spoke to for giving her hope and "helping [her] not feel so alone in it." In the end, Naleigh finally came around — "boy did she ever!" And all the patience and hard work it took to bond with Naleigh made the adoption, as Katherine puts it, "the most rewarding experience of my life."
