How To Make A Baby Scrapbook

Looking for a simple way to document baby milestones? Learn how to create a baby scrapbook that captures first steps, holidays, and everyday moments—with practical tools and tips for beginners.

A person sitting cross-legged on a bed creates a baby scrapbook, surrounded by baby photos, colored pencils, markers, highlighters, scissors, washi tape, and baby items like socks and a hat. The open scrapbook features photos of a baby and playful illustrations.

Today, when most of our memories live on our screens, it’s easy to lose sight of the magic in a keepsake you can hold in your hands. But there’s just something special about a memory you can touch. I created my company, Anna Griffin, Inc., to design crafting products that help people celebrate life’s special moments in tangible ways. And few moments are more meaningful than the early months of your little one’s life.

Scrapbooking helps turn fleeting baby milestones into treasures, whether they’re first words, first steps, or first birthdays. It’s perfect for preserving memories in a way that your child and one day their children can hold in their hands.

And the best part? You don’t have to be an expert to make something meaningful. Whether you set aside an afternoon each month to update a page or keep a memory box to draw from when inspiration strikes, the process can be as simple as you want it to be.

Here are a few ideas to help you get started:

Gather your supplies. No fancy tools needed!

You don’t need a Pinterest-perfect craft room to start creating a baby scrapbook. A simple album or a blank binder with a few sheets of pretty paper will do just fine. Print out some of your favourite photos, from the very first moments in the hospital to those first gummy smiles and everything in between.

I like to keep the essentials on hand: glue sticks, double-sided tape, fine-tip pens, and a good pair of scissors. Many parents include things like a hospital bracelet, a lock of hair, the note from a baby shower gift, or a keepsake from those beautifully chaotic newborn weeks.

Pick a theme and tell a story

Blank pages can feel intimidating, but starting with a theme can help inspiration strike. Choose a moment that stands out to you, like your baby’s first trip or first holiday. Easter has always been one of my favourites. I love the pastel colours and the joy of family traditions.

Over the years, I’ve designed vintage-inspired Easter stickers to capture that sweet, nostalgic feeling, and I love seeing how parents use them in their baby scrapbooks. This year, through my Fan Mail Friday series, Olivia from California shared a photo of a scrapbook page she made to celebrate her little one’s first Easter. She used pastel stickers to frame photos of her daughter reaching for a stuffed bunny and sitting beside a basket filled with crinkled paper and colourful eggs.

Add handwritten notes to bring the memories to life

Photographs tell part of the story, but it’s your words that truly bring the moment to life. A simple note in your own handwriting can capture the little details that make each memory feel complete.

Write down what made your baby laugh that day, their favourite song at the time, anything about how you felt in that exact moment. It doesn’t have to be polished, just from the heart. One day, your child will turn the pages and read your words, and they will feel just how deeply they were loved.

Mix the old with the new (so to speak)

One of my favourite ways to add meaning to a baby scrapbook is by pairing photos of your little one with baby pictures of you or your partner. There is something so special about seeing those moments side by side.

Maybe it’s your baby curled up in a blanket just like you were, or the same bright eyes looking back at the camera a generation later. Pages like this help tell the story of where your baby came from and who they’re growing to be. If your parents have stories or memories from your own baby years, be sure to include those too.

Preserving memories

A baby scrapbook is more than a project. It’s a way to slow down and hold onto what slips by so quickly. The firsts, the everyday moments, even the quiet in-betweens, they all belong somewhere.

When you take the time to put them on the page, you’re not just preserving memories. You’re creating a story only you can tell, one your child will one day return to and see not just where they came from, but how much they were celebrated along the way.
