Read Carly's preview of this new Disney film (in theatres February 17) and find out how you can have a chance to receive tickets to a special screening!
Based on Mary Norton's classic book, The Borrowers, this Japanese-style animated adventure is set in a world that exists under your floors and between your walls. That's where you'll find the tiny people who call themselves "Borrowers."
They sneak out at night when the "beings" (human beings, that is) are fast sleep. Borrowers are simple people, and only take items around the house that the beings won't miss, like cubes of sugar or a tissue or two. In this story, an unlikely friendship develops between the 14-year-old borrower, Arrietty, and a 12-year-old being, who's spending the summer resting at his aunt's place while he awaits heart surgery. (Remember, folks, it's not a Disney film unless someone is sick, dying or dead.)
For the kids: If your little ones enjoy movie outings (and can actually sit still long enough!) I think they will truly enjoy this fascinating and exciting tale. This movie is good for all ages because there are no out-right scary parts. There's just a pesky cat and housekeeper who both seem to be on the hunt for the little people. This is truly a great tale for everyone with an active imagination.
For the parents: The look and feel of this flick is great and, like me, you'll probably enjoy the voices of real-life couple Will Arnett (Arrested Development and Up All Night) and Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation and formerly of SNL), who play Arrietty's over-protective and traditional parents. Also, Carol Burnett, who voices the little people-obsessed housekeeper, Hara, is pretty comical.
