Netflix and DreamWorks Animation SKG recently announced the upcoming debut of the first Netflix Original Series for kids.
The series, Turbo: F.A.S.T., will tie in with the much-anticipated animated film, Turbo, which will hit theatres this summer. And, while the kids series won't officially premiere until December 2013, online buzz is already gaining traction.
The 3D summer popcorn flick focuses on a garden snail named Turbo who, after a freak accident, suddenly finds himself with the ability to travel at super-speed. Turbo openly embraces the opportunity to take advantage of his newfound powers and finally follow his dream — to compete in the Indy 500.
Netflix recently premiered the political drama House of Cards, directed by David Fincher and starring Kevin Spacey. The release of Turbo F.A.S.T., however, will mark the first time the television service will venture into kids programming with an original new series.
The feature film, Turbo, will hit theatres on July 19, 2013 and features the voices of Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Samuel L. Jackson and Saturday Night Live alums, Bill Hader and Maya Rudolph. Turbo F.A.S.T. will debut in December 2013 in all 40 countries where Netflix offers its service.
