What's new on Disney+ for kids and families in August 2020

New content is coming to Disney+! The streaming service from Disney has announced which new TV shows and movies will be added to its lineup next month, and of course that means, more options for the whole family! There’s a handful of titles to look forward to in August, including new episodes of Muppets Now and family-friendly movies like The Peanuts Movie and The Greatest Showman! Check out the full lineup with specific release dates below.

But first, an important note: The age recommendations offered below are approximate. Every kid is different, and you’re the best judge of what’s appropriate and what your kid can handle.

Muppets Now

Best for: 6+ Fozzie Bear has some big ideas for Muppets Now, and there’s no time like the deadline to start pitching! He’s found a very tough audience in Scooter, who just wants to finish uploading the latest delivery. New episodes every Friday in August

Hidden Kingdoms of China

Best for: 9+ Exploring the secrets of China to reveal the beauty of its hidden kingdoms, with unique access to locations across the country. Five different biomes are explored, from high mountains and tropical jungles to bamboo forests, great plains, and forests. Available August 7

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Best for: 13+ A young fugitive prince and princess must stop a villain who unknowingly threatens to destroy the world with a special dagger that enables the magic sand inside to reverse time. Available August 7

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge: Adventure Awaits

Best for: 7+ A look at the Disney attraction based on the Star Wars franchise. Available August 7

The Peanuts Movie

Best for: 3+ Snoopy embarks upon his greatest mission as he and his team take to the skies to pursue their archnemesis, while his best pal Charlie Brown begins his own epic quest back home to win the love of his life. Available August 7

UFO Europe: The Untold Stories, Season 1

Best for: 9+ A selection of stories featuring encounters and sightings of the unexplained. Available August 7

Howard

Best for: 10+ Howard is the untold story of Howard Ashman, the brilliant lyricist behind Disney classics like AladdinBeauty and the BeastThe Little Mermaid and creator of musicals including Little Shop of Horrors. Featuring never-before-seen archival footage, personal films and photographs, as well as interviews with Howard’s friends and family, the film is an intimate look at the Disney Legend’s life, his creative drive, and the process behind the music. Available August 7

X-Men

Best for: 11+ In a world where mutants (evolved super-powered humans) exist and are discriminated against, two groups form for an inevitable clash: the supremacist Brotherhood, and the pacifist X-Men. Available August 7

One Day At Disney

Best for: 7+ An inside look at some of the people working across Disney to make the magic happen. New episodes every Friday in August

Disney Family Sundays

Best for: 3+ Crafter extraordinaire, Amber Kemp-Gerstel, shares her passion for crafting with young families in a series of Disney-inspired DIY projects. Series finale available August 7

Pixar In Real Life

Best for: 4+ This live action series brings iconic characters and moments from Pixar films into the real world. Filmed on location in and around New York City, the series surprises and delights real people in real locations when they least expect it. Available August 7

Alaska Animal Rescue, Season 1

Best for: 9+ When animals are injured or orphaned in Alaska, there are those that will step up to help. Available August 14

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Best for: 11+ As Scott Lang balances being both a superhero and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past. Available August 14

Scuba Sam’s World, Season 1

Best for: 5+ Learn some of the coolest facts about marine wildlife and the ocean as you join Scuba Sam on an aquatic journey and discover the wonders of the underwater world. Dive in as she teaches you about manta rays, nudibranchs, clownfish, jellyfish, and more so you can see for yourself why the ocean is such an amazing place for these creatures. Available August 14

India’s Wild Leopards

Best for: 9+ India may be the land of the Tiger, but it is also home to masters of stealth that prowl the deepest of jungles and the highest of mountains. Available August 14

Jungle Animal Rescue, Season 1

Best for: 8+ India is one of the most biodiverse countries on earth. A dedicated team of conservationists and vets are on a mission to rescue animals in distress and find a way for India's people and wildlife to coexist in harmony. Available August 14

Nature Boom Time, Season 1

Best for: 6+ Follow Charlie, Kirby, and Patrick as they travel around the United States to learn about different kinds of trees—and what makes nature incredibly awesome. Science and history are explained with paper cutouts and goofy-girl Casey back at Headquarters. Available August 14

Sam’s Zookeeper Challenge, Season 1

Best for: 5+ Find out if Sam has what it takes to hang with animals in Sam's Zookeeper Challenge. Watch as Sam is challenged to feed, clean, and care for kinkajous, giraffes, penguins, and more! Available August 14

Spaced Out, Season 1

Best for: TBD Available August 14

T.O.T.S. Calling all T.O.T.S., Season 1

Best for: 3+ The adventures of Pip, a penguin, and Freddy, a flamingo, who are the only non-stork delivery birds in-training at Tiny Ones Transport Service (T.O.T.S.). Available August 14

The One and Only Ivan

Best for: 7+ Ivan is a 400-pound silverback gorilla who shares a communal habitat in a suburban shopping mall with Stella the elephant, Bob the dog, and various other animals. He has few memories of the jungle where he was captured, but when a baby elephant named Ruby arrives, it touches something deep within him. Ruby is recently separated from her family in the wild, which causes him to question his life, where he comes from and where he ultimately wants to be. Available August 14

The Greatest Showman

Best for: 9+ This movie celebrates the birth of show business and tells the story of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. Available August 14

Wild Cats of India, Season 1

Best for: 9+ India's wildcats have been symbols of strength & royalty since the ancient times. This special is a journey across country's contrasting landscapes with an ambition to paint an intimate portrait of the intriguing lives of wildcats. Available August 14

Zombies 2

Best for: 7+ The continuing adventures of Seabrook High students Addison and Zed, whose budding romance is threatened by the arrival of werewolves. Available August 14

Magic Camp

Best for: 6+ A group of misfit campers help a down-on-his-luck magician rediscover his love of magic. Available August 14

Weird But True, Season 3

Best for: 7+ Did you know there are more stars in the universe, than grains of sand on the whole planet?! So weird! National Geographic’s newest season of Weird But True! on Disney+ gets even weirder! New episodes every Friday starting August 14

Back to the Titanic

Best for: 10+ Back to the Titanic documents the first manned dives to Titanic in nearly 15 years. New footage reveals fresh decay and sheds light on the ship's future. Available August 21

Mars: One Day on the Red Planet

Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe

Best for: 6+ Stepbrothers Phineas and Ferb, their older sister Candace, Perry the Platypus and the Danville gang are back together again in this new movie that centres on Phineas and Ferb as they set out across the galaxy to rescue Candace, who after being abducted by aliens, finds utopia in a far-off planet, free of pesky little brothers. Available August 28
